Cougar Lake Outdoor Pool


The Cougar Lake Pool is now closed. We want to thank you all for a great 2012 season! Please join us again in May 2013.

Hours of Operation

Monday Noon - 8pm (Family Night is 6pm - 8pm)
Tuesday - Sunday Noon - 6pm

The pool is open for normal operating hours on Memorial Day and the 4th of July.

Memberships and Daily Rates

Membership applications are available and must be completed at the Reception Desk of the Student Fitness Center. Family is defined as the spouse and children of the approved facility user. Please bring proof of SIUE affiliation and/or Alumni Association card for each individual. Payments can be made by cash, check, Visa or MasterCard. Replacements for lost user cards cost $15.00.

Swim Lessons -

Swim Lessons are available for children ages 4 and up. We will be utilizing the American Red Cross Learn to Swim and Preschool Swim Program. All levels of instruction will be offered during this time slot. Lessons may be canceled due to inclement weather and will only be rescheduled should time permit. No refunds will be offered for canceled lessons.

Alumni must have a current SFC membership or CLP season membership. Community persons must have a current CLP season membership.

Class Descriptions - Pre-School

Preschool Level 1: Most basic elementary aquatic skills. Good attitudes and safe practices around the water are emphasized.

Preschool Level 2: Build upon level 1. Independent locomotion skills are started. Simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions on front and back are explored

Preschool Level 3: Skills are performed independently. Coordination of arm and leg actions in both simultaneous and alternating movements is improved.


Class Descriptions - School Aged

Learn to Swim Level 1: Basic elementary aquatic skills. Being comfortable and enjoying the water are emphasized. Good swimming habits are learned.

Learn to Swim Level 2: Beginning of true locomotion skills. Fundamental skills are practiced. Coordination of arm and leg actions in both simultaneous and alternating movements is developed.

Learn to Swim Level 3: Builds on previously learned skills. Most strokes, or stroke components, are introduced, as well as most water entries.

Learn to Swim Level 4: Develops confidence in strokes learned so far, and all strokes are introduced, as well as flip turns.

Learn to Swim Level 5: All strokes are refined and distances increased. Flip turns on both the front and back are developed.

Learn to Swim Level 6: Fitness Swimming, Personal Water Safety Skills & Fundamentals of Diving - Participants at this level may choose which of these three areas they would like to pursue.


Private Pool Parties

The Cougar Lake Pool may be reserved for private functions during non-operating hours. The cost of a function is $175.00. The fee includes the facility rental for a maximum of 2 hours, parking in Lot 10 and lifeguard staffing for up to 100 people. Call the reception desk at 618-650-2348 today to reserve the date of your choice!

Family Night

Monday is Family Night at the Outdoor Pool from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Students, Faculty, Staff and Alumni are permitted to bring their immediate family to the pool and use the facility at no charge. Family is defined as the spouse and children of the approved facility user.

Child Supervision & Baby Sitter Policy

All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Members of Cougar Lake Pool can bring no more than 2 guests with them per day.

Babysitter Memberships may be added to a family membership for use by a babysitter 16 years of age and older. A babysitter is only entitled to enter the pool using a parent's membership card while the children of the sponsoring family are present with them.


Parking

Parking for the Cougar Lake Recreation Area and Outdoor Pool is limited to the Lot 10. Individuals requiring special needs for parking should call 650-BFIT (2348). All individuals will be required to have a parking hangtag in their vehicle to park in this parking lot. Vehicles that do not have a Cougar Lake Recreation Area parking hangtag displayed in their vehicle will receive a parking ticket. Hang tags are available for $20.00 to Outdoor Pool members and may be picked up at the Reception Desk of the Student Fitness Center with the purchase of an Outdoor Pool membership. Daily parking tags may be purchased from the Pool House for $2. Further information regarding SIUE Parking Policies may be obtained from the university's Parking Services Website.

Life Jackets and PFD's

Only USCG approved personal floatation devices (PFD's) are permitted at Cougar Lake Pool. Parents must remain within arms length of a child wearing a PFD. Please check with Cougar Lake Pool staff if you are unsure your PFD is acceptable. Inflatable "water wings" are not an acceptable form of floatation device and are not permitted at Cougar Lake Pool.
