Record enrollment in programs, scholarly publications, externally funded research and incoming freshman ACT scores—every measurable indicator in the SIUE School of Engineering has increased annually since 2006. The continuous growth in enrollment and faculty has caused some growing pains as the award-winning Engineering Building, constructed in 2000, has reached capacity.
A projected $14.2 million expansion and renovation of the Engineering Building, which currently is underway, will include the construction of a new roughly 32,000-square-foot annex that will be connected to the existing building through an enclosed bridge. The annex—scheduled for completion as early as 2013—will provide additional classrooms and laboratories, and much-needed office space.
