(EDWARDSVILLE, Ill.) Nicole M. Grashoff of St. Peters, Mo., a business major at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, was recently honored with the Enterprise Foundation Rent-A-Car Student Leader of the Month Award for April 2007. Grashoff will graduate from SIUE this May with a bachelor of science in business administration with a focus in marketing.
The award, which has been in place since September, recognizes students who are nominated by their campus organization for outstanding participation and responsibility. Grashoff’s award is in recognition of her contributions to the SIUE Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity and to student life in the School of Business. Under her leadership the organization has grown quickly and created a strong foundation for the future.
As president of Delta Sigma Pi, Grashoff played a vital role in the formation of the fraternity. She also performed other duties, such as, promotion, professional activities and community services for the fraternity. Grashoff is also involved on campus in other organizations such as, Student Government Executive Board and Campus Activities Board.
In addition to her campus activities, Grashoff is an assistant youth soccer coach and is also a Hope Animal Rescues volunteer. This non-profit organization pulls animals out of animal control to give them a chance to be adopted.
In response to the Enterprise award, Grashoff said, “Though I am very honored and happy to be recognized, Delta Sigma Pi would not be where it is without the dedication of all of the members. They are all invaluable.”
The award carries with it a $50 stipend and certificate. In addition, Grashoff will be recognized at a reception in the spring that will honor all Enterprise Rent-A-Car award recipients and will provide SIUE business students with an opportunity to network with Enterprise executives.
The SIUE School of Business is among an elite 15 percent of business schools worldwide that have earned the prestigious Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accreditation, a seal of approval that the SIUE School has earned each year since 1975. Jones of Matteson, Ill., a business major at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, was recently honored with the Enterprise Foundation Rent-A-Car Student Leader of the Month Award for March 2007. Jones will graduate from SIUE this May with a bachelor of science in business administration with a focus on marketing.
The award, which has been in place since September, recognizes students who are nominated by their campus organization for outstanding participation and responsibility. Jones’ award is in recognition of work with the SIUE ELITE student organization. Jones was chair of the committee that produced ELITE’s first newsletter in October 2006
In addition to this award, Jones received the SIUE Johnetta Haley Scholar award for minority students with a 3.0 GPA and was also a on the Dean’s List. Carpenter is involved in other organizations on campus such as, Student Government Finance Board and she was the former Vice President of the Organization for Minority Business Students.
In response to this award Jones said, “It is nice to be recognized and rewarded for my dedication and commitment to the School of Business. I would like to thank those who nominated me and worked so diligently on the newsletter with me.” After graduating in May, Jones plans to pursue corporate aspirations and eventually get her MBA.

Allison R Olden of Salem, IL, a business major at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, was recently honored with the Enterprise Foundation Rent-A-Car Student Leader of the Month Award for February 2007. Olden will graduate from SIUE this May with a bachelor of science in business administration specializing in international business with a focus on the Chinese language.
The award, which has been in place since September, recognizes students who are nominated by their campus organization for outstanding participation and responsibility. Olden’s award is in recognition of work as vice president the SIUE chapter of the International Business Association (IBA), which seeks to enhance student awareness of international business by promoting social and professional relationships between U.S. students, international students, and companies.
Michelle Carpenter, president of the IBA, said, “Allison has been the most committed among our members this year and has been vital to our success. She is full of ideas and has shown great leadership by organizing a tour of Anheuser-Busch and Schlafly, where IBA members and exchange students can compare a local brewery with an international one.”
In addition to IBA, Olden is a member of the Student Leadership Development Program at SIUE, which promotes leadership in students through leadership development modules and community service and volunteer in the Metro East area.
In response to this award, Olden said, “My motto is that unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow. Being part of the IBA has allowed me to challenge myself, and I and very thankful for that. I am also thankful to Enterprise and the SIUE School of Business. Both of these organizations stress the importance of campus involvement, which is so important to student development.”

Harris of Richton Park, Ill., a business major at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, was recently honored with the Enterprise Foundation Rent-A-Car Student Leader of the Month Award for January 2007. Harris will graduate from SIUE this May with a bachelor of science in business administration with a focus in human resources.
The award, which has been in place since September, recognizes students who are nominated by their campus organization for outstanding participation and responsibility. Harris’ award is in recognition of her work as a member the SIUE chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), which seeks to engage and educate students and the community regarding the importance of the human resource profession.
Ashley McNeil, president of SHRM, said, “Victoria is not only active in student organizations, but she is also an outstanding community member. SHRM is proud to nominate Victoria and feels no one deserves this award more than her.”
As vice president of SHRM, Harris is required to schedule speakers for monthly meetings and network with local professionals. Other duties include monitoring the organization’s progress toward the Merit Award, which is awarded annually from National SHRM.
In addition to her campus activities, Harris volunteers with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Southwestern Illinois. The program serves to enrich, encourage and empower children through safe, fun, positive mentoring relationships with caring adults. Harris has been matched with a “little sister” and meets with her twice a month.
In response to the Enterprise award, Harris said, “This is really an honor. More than anything, I am grateful for the many opportunities that the SIUE School of Business has provided and for the outstanding faculty.”

(EDWARDSVILLE, Ill.) Timothy W. Jones, Sr. of Belleville, Illinois, recently was honored with the Enterprise Rent-A-Car Student Leader of the Month Award. Jones will graduate from SIUE this December with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Management Information Systems (CMIS) Degree.
The award recognizes students who are nominated by their organizations for outstanding participation and responsibility. Jones’ award is in recognition of his work as president of the Association of Information Technology Professional student organization, which offers opportunities for Information Technology leadership and education through partnerships with industry, government and academia.
Dr. Mark Ward, assistant professor and faculty advisor of AIPT said, “Tim is an inspiration to us all and greatly deserves this award. As AITP president, he has changed the organization into a vibrant and vital student group and I can’t wait to see what else he will accomplish.”
In response to the award, Jones said, “To be selected from the many great student organization leaders that work diligently each month is an honor; however, this award could easily have been shared with others in AITP leadership who have all been instrumental in our accomplishments this semester.”
Some of Jones’ accomplishments as AITP president include increasing membership by 21 students, implementing changes to the AITP Constitution and By-Laws that include accepting pre-major students into the organization and developing working relationships with other local chapters.
Currently, Jones is working on establishing “communication centers” within retirement facilities in the Edwardsville area. Jones said, “In addition to setting up a donated computer, we will offer training to the residents to assist them in communicating with their families and loved ones by way of email.”

(EDWARDSVILLE, Ill.) Michael Ulrich of New Douglas, a business major at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, recently was honored as the first-ever recipient of the Enterprise Foundation Rent-A-Car Student Leader of the Month Award. Ulrich will graduate from SIUE in May with a bachelor of science in Accountancy.
The award recognizes students who are nominated by their organizations for outstanding participation and responsibility. Ulrich’s award is in recognition of his work as president of Beta Alpha Psi, the national honor accounting society for top accounting majors. The organization strives to foster relationships with fellow accounting majors as well as faculty and future employers.
Norris Manning, program director of Student Services for the SIUE School of Business and head of the award selection committee, said, “This award is a great way for students to recognize and honor their peers who are bettering our student organizations,” Manning said. “Michael was chosen to win this month’s award for his professionalism, while representing Beta Alpha Psi and the SIUE community at a the society’s national meeting.”
In addition to this award, Ulrich, who is an SIUE Chancellor Scholar, has been on the SIUE Dean’s List and the National Dean’s List. “I am honored to be a recipient of this award (and I) greatly appreciate Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation’s involvement at SIUE. Through awards such as this, students are motivated to be active in their community and student organizations.” Ulrich said he currently is striving to make Beta Alpha Psi a “distinguished chapter.”
