Travel Study China

The next travel study to China will take place May 5 - 19, 2013.

Program Description:

This year, the School of Business International Program will explore three Chinese cities, all of which will expand your collective cultural dimension. As a participant in China 2013, Beijing’s many important historical sites - the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, the Great Wall, and the Ming Tombs - will give you greater perspective on China’s cultural heritage. While in Shanghai, you’ll tour US companies doing business in China to explore the nuances of international commerce. In Xiamen, you’ll be welcomed by business students from Xiamen University, with whom you’ll visit local Chinese businesses, compare cultures, and explore university life in China.

Locations & Travel Dates:

The China Travel Study will take place May 5 - 19, 2013. Students will visit Beijing, Shanghai, & Xiamen.
Application Information:

Applications are due January 31, 2013 at 4:30 pm. Application Instructions:

  1. Complete Application Form
  2. Please attach an essay with your application:

    • Length of  250 words explaining

      • How you heard about this program

      • Why you want to participate

      • What goals you hope to fulfill through participation

      • What you hope to learn

      • How you will benefit professionally

    • In the upper, right-hand corner of your essay, please:

      • Write your name (first, middle, and last)

      • Faculty member who is completing your Recommendation Form and his/her e-mail address for

  3.  Ask an SIUE Business faculty member to complete the Recommendation Form and turn it in to our office by 4:30 pm on January 31, 2013.

  4. Turn in your application as soon as possible, but no later than 4:30 pm on January 31, 2013. Please also make sure the faculty member has turned in your recommendation by that time.

Travel Study Costs:

The cost will be $3,000 for students participating in the China Travel Study. 
  • Included: Airfare, Lodging, Visas, Transportation between cities, Opening & Closing dinners 
  • Not included: Meals, SIUE Tuition, and Incidental expenses

Credit & Course Requirements:

Students will be enrolled in GBA 489 for three credit hours. The course is taught in seminar format and students will be reviewed based on the value they add to the course. Students will be required to attend 4 mandatory pre-trip class meetings and possibly 1 post-trip meeting.

    • Photo Journal

    • Personal Journal

    • Final Exam

    • Professional, responsible behavior, 24/7

Eligibility:

To participate in the China Travel Study, students must meet the following requirements:

  •  Juniors and seniors in good standing at SIUE 
  • Minimum 2.25 GPA
  • Priority will be given to School of Business students
