The degree program in Accountancy prepares students for entry into a professional career in accounting in either the private or public sector. Beta Gamma Sigma Development Fund
Beta Gamma Sigma, the National Scholastic Business Honor Society, is the second oldest scholastic honorary in the United States. The organization recognizes the outstanding scholastic achievements of Business majors. Only Schools and Colleges of Business that are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB) may house Beta Gamma Sigma chapters. At SIUE, invitations to join are issued to juniors in good standing with grade point averages (GPA) of at least 3.80 and seniors with GPA’s of at least 3.65. Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is a lifetime honor. Gifts to Beta Gamma Sigma are used to sponsor the annual recognition program and induction ceremony in the spring.

The Southwestern Illinois Entrepreneurship Center serves as an umbrella organization to facilitate the interaction between entrepreneurs and existing resources. In addition to providing in-depth assistance and accelerated services to entrepreneurs, the center promotes an entrepreneurial culture throughout the region. The Center works with entrepreneurs and small businesses from start-up phase through the transition/exit phase. The Southwestern Illinois Entrepreneurship Center provides the following services: coordinate support services for clients that address gaps and limitations in client's current operations; conduct business assessments that identify gaps and limitations in the client's current operation; provide business coaching services to assist clients in developing professional funding pitches for investor meetings; provides advanced financial assistance and planning including determining capital needs and making investor introductions; provide targeted accelerated services for clients that have high growth potential. Gifts to the School of Business International Programs are used to provide scholarship opportunities in the form of competitive travel awards to students who study internationally. The program provides enriching opportunities for students to learn about global economic conditions and business practices firsthand. Our students enroll in one- to two-week travel study courses and semester-long study abroad at partner institutions in locations like China, Mexico, Hungary, England, France, the Netherlands, and Germany. Participating students have the opportunity to apply for Competitive Travel Awards, which cover half of their round-trip travel costs between St. Louis and the location where they study. The International Trade Center is one of six trade centers located throughout the State of Illinois. The SIUE International Trade Center serves businesses in the 47 southernmost counties by providing: individualized, free export consultation to Illinois businesses; international market analysis to identify the most advantageous trading opportunities; identification of foreign buyers, agents and/or distributors through trade leads; seminars on international business strategies, export procedures, distribution practices, and methods of payment, as well as the latest exporting trends; export finance assistance in coordination with EX-IM Bank and SBA's Export Working Capital Program; access to extensive export trade reference material and the International Trade Data Bank. The Abraham E. Rutman Fund was established by Drs. Gilbert Rutman and Valerie Meyer to honor Dr. Rutman’s father. The fund is used to promote a closer relationship between the regional business community and the SIUE School of Business. Interaction is fostered through events such as lectures and dinners. In 2006, Steve Forbes, president and CEO of Forbes, Inc., and editor-in-chief of Forbes Magazine, was a featured speaker at an SIUE Arts & Issues Series sponsored through proceeds from the Abraham E. Rutman Endowed Fund. Additional funds are sought to increase the corpus of the endowment in order to continue and to expand these opportunities.

Small Business Development Center
The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) conducts nearly 50 seminars and workshops throughout the year that address topics important to all business owners. The SBDC also provides one-to-one counseling services to new and existing businesses at no charge. It reviews business plans and discusses financing options, bank loans, SBA and state-backed loan programs, marketing, management, and other topics of concern to business clients. For companies that require specialized attention, the SBDC can act as a referral source for a variety of specialized professionals and consultants. Areas of expertise include business plan development, cash flow analysis, marketing plan development, database searches for financing sources, mailing lists, and more. SBDC clients can visit the resource room containing computer programs, video tapes, and reference materials on a variety of business topics.
