Dr. Meisel has worked previously as a consultant to the Illinois Commerce Commission and as a staff economist in the Office of Plans and Policy at the Federal Communications Commission in Washington, D.C.
He has published in The Quarterly Review of Economics and Business, Telecommunications Policy, Review of Economics and Statistics, Research in Higher Education, Southern Economic Journal, Journal of Industrial Economics, Revista Internazionale Di Scienze Economiche e Commercieli, Growth and Change, Journal of Economic Education, and Review of Industrial Organization. His current research interest is exploring the impact of the Internet on the growth and structure of information markets. His most recent research papers are titled, "The Impact of Internet Access Providers on Arbitrary Regulatory Policies in Telecommunications," and "Public Policy Issues Concerning the Internet and the Traditional Telephone Regulatory Structures." Dr. Meisel is the chairman of the Board of Directors of the SWICSIU Credit Union. He has co-authored several economic impact studies addressing, for example, the economic impact of Gateway International Raceway and the economic impact of Southern Illinois University.
