Introduction

Welcome to the Department of Economics and Finance. I hope that you will take a few minutes to explore the opportunities that our department has to offer. Our faculty and staff are committed to providing an excellent educational experience for our students. Our undergraduate degree in Economics and Finance is structured to prepare our students for immediate employment in the financial services or government industries, or entry-level management. For information on the employment prospects with an Economics and Finance degree visit the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics website; here you can find information on a number of occupations related to our degree.  There is additional information available at the career information link on the left-side of the page.

Where do our graduates go?  A few examples of the employers that have hired our graduates are Boeing, Edward Jones, Wells Fargo, Stifel Nicolaus, TheBank of Edwardsville, First Cloverleaf Bank, and the states of Illinois and Missouri.

In addition to immediate employment, our students have many options to further their education. Our Master's Degree in Economics and Finance can be completed in as little as twelve months, giving our students the opportunity to go from an entering freshman to a Master's candidate in only five years. Many of our graduate students have continued on to doctoral programs in economics and finance at such places as Florida, New York University (NYU), Northwestern, Missouri, and Michigan State.

Although our department is part of the School of Business at SIUE, we also offer undergraduate Economics degrees through the College of Arts and Sciences for those students interested in a social science education. The undergraduate program requirements can be found by clicking on program links below.  Additional details on both the graduate and undergraduate programs can be found by using the programs link on the left side of the page.
