Remedial:

Remedial courses may be waived by proficiency exam or by the Admissions Committee based on the applicant’s academic record. The following courses are pre-program requirements. None counts in the hours required for the MS degree.

  • ACCT 200/501 Fundamentals of Financial Accounting

In addition, the following three courses must be completed with a grade of B or higher in each:

  • MS251 Statistical Analysis for Business Decisions
  • ECON 301 or 528 Intermediate Microeconomic Theory
  • ECON 302 Intermediate Macroeconomic Theory

Core:

  • EC/FIN 400 Quantitative Methods for Economic and Business Analysis
  • EC/FIN 415 Introduction to Econometrics (grade of B or higher required)
  • ECON 501 Advanced Microeconomic Theory (grade of B or higher required)
  • ECON 502 Advanced Macroeconomic Theory (grade of B or higher required)

Select a focus in either applied economics or finance:

Focus in Applied Economics (courses subject to approval of Econ grad adviser):

  • 2 econ electives
  • 2 finance electives
  • 2 electives

All candidates must complete at least 21 hours of program courses at the 500 level, excluding any pre-program requirements.

Total for degree: 30 semester hours

Focus in Finance (courses subject to approval of Fin grad adviser):

Remedial:

  • FIN 320/420/513 Corporate Finance (420 or 513 recommended)
  • FIN 430 Portfolio Analysis
  • FIN 431 Derivative Securities

Economics courses:

  • 2 econ electives (at least one 500 level; 515 and 517 recommended)

Finance courses:

  • FIN 525 Financial Planning & Control
  • FIN 528 Security Analysis and Modeling
  • FIN 532 Financial Innovations and Engineering
  • FIN 596 Research (grade of B or higher required)

Total for degree: 30 semester hours
