Prior to joining the SIUE faculty, Dr. Powell worked in the IT field for ten years. She worked for three years for Electronic Data Systems (EDS) Corporation as a Systems Engineer. For seven years, she worked for American United Life Insurance Company in Indianapolis, IN as a Systems Analyst and Business Analyst.
Dr. Powell's primary teaching area is Systems Analysis and Design.
She completed the Ph.D. in Management of Information Systems in 2000 from Indiana University - Bloomington. Her dissertation examined commitment and performance in virtual project teams. Her current research focuses on the impact of new technology on individuals, teams, and the organization. A secondary research interest is examining pedagogical aspects of IT education. Dr. Powell has published work in numerous MIS academic journals and presented several papers at various MIS conferences. She serves on the editorial review board of the Journal of Organizational and End-User Computing.
