Prior to joining the SIUE faculty, Dr. Powell was an instructor and doctoral candidate at Indiana University in the Department of Accounting and Information Systems where she completed the Ph.D. in Management of Information Systems (2000). Her dissertation examined commitment and performance in virtual project teams.
She has ten years of work experience in the IT field. She worked for three years for Electronic Data Systems Corporation as a Systems Engineer. For seven years, she worked for American United Life Insurance Company as a Systems Analyst for five years and a Business Analyst for two.
Dr. Powell’s primary teaching area is Systems Analysis and Design.
Her current research focuses on virtual team collaboration issues. Secondary research interests include effectiveness in distance education and end-user computing. Dr. Powell has published work in Journal of End-User Computing and presented several papers at the Americas Conferences on Information Systems. In addition, she has written a chapter for the book Strategic Information Technology. She serves on the editorial review board of Computer Personnel journal.
