Advisement & Registration

Once students are admitted to the School of Business or become pre-business students they will be advised by a professional advisor in the Business Student Services Office or a faculty member from their department. Please see the "Meet with an Advisor" link to the left to see advisement locations by major.

Undeclared students and anyone seeking information about Business programs may meet with Business Advisors and faculty advisors for assistance prior to application to the School of Business.

During peak registration times (September, early October, January, February and early March) appointments are only for declared majors and coded pre-business students only.

Advising for summer and fall 2008

Students who are advised in Business Student Services may begin meeting with advisors for summer and fall 2008 advising on January 28, 2008.  Students who are advised in the individual academic departments should contact their advisor for information on advisement for summer and fall 2008.

Registration for summer and fall 2008

Students will be able to register themselves via the web after they have met with an academic advisor, planned their upcoming courses and received a Advisement Form and their alternate PIN.  Students should meet with an academic advisor before March 17, 2008 to be advised for summer and fall 2008.

Web registration will begin on March 17, 2008 and will be implemented according to the University established schedule below. Advisors will no longer register students for courses.  Only those students who have been advised and who have a Advisement Form and their alternate PIN number will be able to proceed to CougarNet and register for classes.

Some Advice about summer and fall 2008 Advising and Registration

What you should do:

Do meet with an advisor sometime before March 17 for advisement. You may either schedule an appointment or come to drop-in.

Do plan the times you want for your courses after you have met with an advisor.

Do begin exploring your options for electives (if you need them) by reviewing the course schedule and the Undergraduate Catalog. Both are available online at the Registrar’s Office website: www.siue.edu/registrar or through CougarNet

Please be patient.

Ask questions. If you have questions ask! If we don’t know, we will find out for you or refer you to the person who can assist you.

What you should not do:

Do not panic. As long as you meet with an advisor sometime by March 17 for advising and have a plan in place, you should be able to register yourself in March at the time appropriate for your status.

Do not arrive at 4:00 a.m. or earlier for drop-in--there is no need to arrive at such an early hour to be advised. Registration in March is not prioritized according to the time or day on which you were advised for that term, so there is no reason to rush through the doors early on the first day of the week or to wait for long periods at drop-in.

Do not wait until the last minute to be advised. There is plenty of time between January 28 and April 7 for all business majors and pre-business students to be advised, but please do not wait until the last minute to do so.
