The management specialization provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become effective managers in organizations. The courses in this specialization emphasize the complex nature of organizations and the tools necessary to manage human resources, design effective organizational systems, and diagnose and solve organizational problems. The specialization emphasizes the increasingly global nature of business and how to deal with changes in internal and external environments.
The business administration degree with a management specialization will prepare you to be a business professional who understands the various and complex managerial environments in business operations and the unique challenges faced by managers in the global economy. You will learn about the functional areas of modern business, the ethical and global issues confronting business today, and the economic, social, political and legal environments in which business decisions are made. Practice in making decisions using quantitative and analytical skills is complemented with leadership and team-building skills. The curriculum is delivered using a variety of methods including analysis of business cases and other experiential exercises as well as co-curricular activities.
This specialization provides flexibility to accommodate students with a variety of interests and prepares them for managerial careers in private and public sector organizations. Graduates of the program are qualified for careers in a variety of administrative and managerial positions in business firms, the non-profit sector and government agencies. SIUE graduates obtain positions at numerous firms including Maritz, Enterprise, Edward Jones, Regions Bank, Caterpillar, The Boeing Co. and CBA Corporation. Students are strongly encouraged to gain professional experience through co-operative education, internships and other co-curricular activities prior to graduation.
