Admissions Requirements

1. Applicants for admission to the MSA program who have earned an undergraduate accounting degree from a program with separate AACSB accounting accreditation and an overall GPA of 3.6 (A=4.0) will be admitted to the MSA. Applicants who qualify under this condition will no be required to take the GMAT and can apply to the MSA any time after the start of the final semester of their undergraduate accounting program. To qualify for admission under this standard, applicants must also submit letters of recommendation from two faculty members at their undergraduate institution.
2. All other applicants for admission to the MSA program must meet the requirements for admission to the Graduate School and must complete the GMAT with a minimum score of 500 and a score of at least 25 each on the verbal and quantitative portions of the examination. Admission is determined by a formula: Multiply the undergraduate grade point average (A=4.0) by 200, add the composite GMAT score. The total score must be 1100. Student also must submit GMAT Analytical Writing scores.
   
   International students also must earn a minimum score of 550 on the paper-based TOEFL or 213 on the computer-based TOEFL and submit a score on the Test of Spoken English (TSE).

Exit Requirements

Successful completion of the MSA program requires that the candidate have excellent written and oral communication skills and an aptitude for analyzing complex problems. The MSA may be completed on either a full-time or part-time basis. Full-time students with a recent undergraduate degree in accounting typically complete the program in one year. Part-time students with a recent undergraduate degree in accounting typically complete the program in two years. Depending on the number of courses taken each semester, students with undergraduate degrees in non-business fields can complete the program and elective requirements in 2 to 4 years.

MSA candidates will complete a research project resulting in a written report and a final examination. Both requirements will be completed as part of the requirements for ACCT 580.

NOTE: If you are a new graduate student and you intend to apply for a Competitive Graduate Award (CGA), the deadline for having all of your application materials turned in moves up to January 15th. If you apply for the CGA but your SIUE application is incomplete, your application for the Competitive Graduate Award will be removed from consideration.
