Meet Our Staff

The Office of Assessment is housed in the Provost Suite, third floor, Rendleman Hall, and is comprised of director, assistant to the director, and student worker.

Director Dr. Victoria Groves Scott, Ed.D.

Victoria Scott

Professor Scott became the Director of Assessment in July 2007. She has been a faculty member in the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders at SIUE since 2001. Dr. Scott received the Teaching Excellence Award from SIUE in 2006 and the 2006 Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award. Additionally, she was the guest speaker at SIUE's Freshman Convocation in 2006 and was a 2003 State Farm Faculty Fellow in Service Learning.

Dr. Scott received her bachelor's degree in elementary education and special education from Drury University, and went on to earn a master's degree in special education from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and a doctorate in special education from the University of Kansas. She also served a pre-doctoral internship at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

Prior to her appointment at SIUE, Professor Scott was chair of the Department of Special Education and coordinator of elementary-level special education programs for the Associated Colleges of Central Kansas. She has established field-based courses in assessment and methods, served as project director on several state and federal grants, and conducted numerous in-service sessions. Dr. Scott was chosen by her peers as the Kansas Council for Exceptional Children Outstanding Special Education Teacher of the Year for 1998, and was also awarded the Council for Exceptional Children Federation Award in 1999. She has conducted research in the areas of phonemic awareness, reading instruction, assistive technology, and assessment. Additionally, she has seven years of teaching experience in public schools.

Assistant to the Director Cindy Scarsdale

Cindy Scarsdale

Cindy Scarsdale has been with SIUE since 2000 and with the Office of Assessment since 2001. She has also worked with the Excellence in Learning and Teaching Initiative at SIUE.

She has co-presented on the topic of assessment twice at the National Assessment Institute at IU/PUI and on SIUE's Undergraduate Research Academy at two regional conferences. Additionally, she has served on numerous committees at the University, including Faculty Roles and Rewards, undergraduate program review, planning committees for the Teaching, Learning and Technology Fair and Fall Faculty Symposium, and Phase I and Phase II of the BRIDGE (Baccalaureate Reform through Integrated Design of General Education) Process.

Ms. Scarsdale was recognized for her outstanding community involvement by being named an Illinois Woman of Achievement in 2002 by Illinois Lt. Gov. Corinne Wood. She was inducted into the honor society of Phi Kappa Phi in 1987 and is a member of both the national and SIUE chapters of the organization. She also received the SIUE Employee Recognition Award in August 2005.

Ms. Scarsdale is an alumnus of SIUE, receiving her bachelor's degree in mass communications (television and radio) in 1988. Her broad work experiences prior to joining the University include being a radio news editor, a newspaper copy editor, directing publicity for and managing a ballroom, and working as an accounting assistant.
