The program of Theatrical Design and Technology within the Department of Theatre and Dance is created to teach students in skills to be a costume, scenic, lighting and/or sound designer or practitioner. These skills will ensure that students are ready for employment in professional or semi-professional theatres, or be qualified to attend some of the best graduate programs for their chosen area of design.
This demanding program offers fundamental classes in theatrical design and technology as well as Stage Make-up and Theatrical Scene Painting to name a few.
Advanced classes can be offered in Theatre Graphics, Theatre Rendering as well as any of the design specialties. Along with these classes, students will take classes in Acting/Directing, Dance and Theatre History/ Literature/ Criticism.
Theatrical Design and Technology students have the opportunity to learn not only through classes, but also by working and designing for Southern Illinois University’s productions throughout the season.
Our faculty have trained and worked in across North America and in Europe for Broadway productions, Professional Regional Theatres and independent productions. They bring a wide range of knowledge and aesthetic to the program and demonstrate it in the classroom as well as on the stage.
If you have any questions, or would like to know more about our program, please contact Dr. Laura Hanson at email@example.com
