 | "The most beneficial knowledge that I have gained has come from my experience in speaking. Before this class, I had only made one speech my entire life. By practicing speaking, I have gained confidence and understanding of strong speech practices. Incorporating my new knowledge into my speeches has improved them considerably, and will continue to improve them with more speaking experience. I enjoy this class, even though speaking is one of my greatest fears." - Jim |
 | Tommy "The main thing that I have learned is that introductions and conclusions are as important in speeches as they are in writing papers. You don't want to simply jump right into the core of your speech and also don't want to abruptly end your speech, leaving the audience hanging. Learning the methods of gaining the audience's attention in introductions has made me more aware of the importance of introductions. Therefore, I am a better speaker. The same is true for conclusions. Learning the functions of conclusions has made me concentrate more on creating effective conclusions." - Tommy |
 | "I have learned that speeches are not too hard when the speaker is well prepared and comfortable. Now, I know to PRACTICE before each speech, even the shorter ones. Also, I am working on staying more conversational and calm in front of the audience." - Ann |
 | "So far in this class, I have learned that there are ways to reduce stage fright, prepare a speech in a way that effectively delivers a message, and why it is important to be able to speak in front of people. All of this is important because someday, I might need to use this when presenting to a boss." - Michelle |
 | "This class has been helpful because it is getting rid of my fear of speaking in front of people (slowly, but it is). I have also learned what it takes to be a better speaker, such as organization techniques. From this class, I have learned ways to add to my speeches by using quotes and visual aids. This class is giving me more confidence each day because I know or I am learning ways to be better prepare for a speech and ways to be more effective.
