|International PR Course (Travel Study in France and Romania )|
Dr. Sarah VanSlette earned her MA and PhD in Public Relations from Purdue University. She previously taught Public Relations, Event Planning, Research Methods, Public Speaking, and Intercultural Communication at John Carroll University in Cleveland, OH, and is happy to be at SIUE and back in her hometown of St. Louis, MO. Dr. VanSlette's undergraduate degree is from Saint Louis University.
Dr. VanSlette's research focuses on "communication of controversy" or "problematic PR," whether it's the PR of the European Union as it tried to persuade its members to adopt the euro; the seemingly crazy outlaw discourse of Ryanair; or the tense communication between administrators and faculty in institutions of higher education. She approaches her study of public relations and strategic communication from a rhetorical perspective.
Dr. VanSlette lives with her husband, son, and dog in West St. Louis County, close to many of their family and friends. Her perfect Saturday includes breakfast at First Watch, a walk in the park with her family, and taking a kickboxing class at the gym. She used to thoroughly enjoy traveling internationally, but since welcoming her son, has sadly realized that traveling with young children is not nearly as fun.
