The SIUE Chapter Alpha Kappa Delta, the International Sociology Honor Society, was chartered in 2017. The purpose of the society is to promote an interest in the study of sociology, research of social problems, and such other social and intellectual activities as will lead to improvement in the human condition.

Applications are due MARCH 15th and OCTOBER 15th to ensure approval in time for graduation.

Membership in AKD is a powerful way to demonstrate to employers your passion for learning and dedication to hard work.  Further, through membership students can gain mentors and apply for grants and other opportunities.  Memborship fees are affordable and last a lifetime.

UNDERGRADUATES
Membership is open to juniors and seniors who have:

  • Completed at least 12 credit hours in sociology registered through the SIUE.
  • Are officially declared majors or minors in sociology, criminal justice, the sociology concentration of social science, or social studies.
  • Have a minimum overall grade point average in the top 35th of their class.
  • Have maintained a 3.0 grade point average in sociology courses taken at SIUE.

GRADUATE STUDENTS
Membership is open to graduate students who:

  • Are officially admitted to SIUE graduate program in Sociology
  • Have completed at least 9 hours in the program as a graduate student.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or better.
  • Have plans to complete your Masters in Sociology.
