Psychology-Sociology Double Majors / Criminal Justice-Sociology Double Majors

Psychology Majors/Sociology Minors, We’ve just made it easier for you to double major!

Right now, you need 21 hours to graduate with a sociology minor.  But with only 9 additional hours you can major in both sociology and psychology. Sociology will accept Psyc 220 and 221 as replacements for Sociology 302 (methods) and 303 (stats).  The plan would look like the following:

General Sociology Majors: Total 30 hours

Soc 111
Soc 301
6 Soc Electives
Soc 493 (pre-req: all the above)
Soc 495 (pre-req: 493)

Employment Relations (ER) and Diversity and Social Justice (DSJ) Specializations:   Total 30 hours

Soc 111
Soc 301
5 Soc. electives
Soc 338 and 431 (ER)  or Soc 325 and 411 (DSJ)
Soc 433 (Pre-req: all the above, however, you can take 431 and 411 concomittantly)

Of course, all other requirements still apply (for example,  you need to receive Cs or better in all required soc. courses).

If you’re interested in double majoring, just make an appt with a CAS adviser, Peck Hall 1315.  You’ll just need to see them once to declare.

Make sure to fill out the survey so we can pair you with a Sociology Faculty Mentor!

Criminal Justice Studies Majors/Sociology Minors: We’ve just made it easier for you to double major!

Right now, you need 21 hours to graduate with a sociology minor.  But with only 9 additional hours you can major in both sociology and criminal justice.  Sociology will accept CJ 302 and 303 as replacements for Sociology 302 (methods) and 303 (stats).  The plan would look like the following:

General Sociology Majors: Total 30 hours

Soc 111
Soc 301
6 Soc Electives
Soc 493 (pre-req: all the above)
Soc 495 (pre-req: 493)

Employment Relations (ER)* and Diversity and Social Justice (DSJ) Specializations:   Total 30 hours

Soc 111
Soc 301
5 Soc. electives
Soc 338 and 431 (ER)  or Soc 325 and 411 (DSJ)
Soc 433 (Pre-req: all the above, however, you can take 431 and 411 concomittantly)

****Because of overlap between CJ 273 and Soc 272,  we prefer students do not take Soc 272 to satisfy any sociology requirements*******

Of course, all other requirements still apply (for example,  you need to receive Cs or better in all required soc. courses).

One more piece onf information, students cannot complete the same internship for CJ as their Sociology exit requirement. Thus, students specialzing in ER or DSJ must complete a second internship and
have the internship approved by the 433 instructor.

If you’re interested in double majoring, just make an appt with a CAS adviser, Peck Hall 1315.  You’ll just need to see them once to declare.

Make sure to fill out the survey so we can pair you with a Sociology Faculty Mentor!
