Letter to Interested Applicants for MSW Program

Dear Prospective Master of Social Work Student:

We are pleased to know of your interest in the MSW Program at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Our Program offers students training in the professional values, knowledge and skills for advanced social work practice in the community. We emphasize the teaching of social work practice methods that promote social and economic justice and enhance the well-being of all citizens in our society. Our students are taught both generalist and specialized intervention methods for empowerment-based social work practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations, neighborhoods and communities.

Currently our Program curriculum offers concentrations, that is, specialized training, in: Children and Family Services (CFS), and Health, Mental Health, and Disabilities (HMHD). However, a new curriculum and program of study is currently being reviewed and slated for approval by our University. This proposed new curriculum strengthens our course offerings in social work practice methods. Additionally, the current concentrations (noted above) will be replaced with a Micro Concentration (social work practice with individuals, families, and small groups) and a Macro Concentration (social work practice in organizations, neighborhoods, and communities).

The MSW Program Description (on left) describes our current Program’s mission, goals, and admission requirements and procedures. All application materials are also included. If our proposed new curriculum and program of study are approved by the University this year, you will be sent the new Program Description with complete details and requirements for graduation.

We wish to thank you for your interest in our MSW Program, and we look forward to receiving your application materials in the near future.

Sincerely,

Larry W. Kreuger, Ph.D.

 Carl E. Bentelspacher, Ph.D.
