AUDITIONS: New Member Auditions will be held the morning of August 13th (Saturday), with sign-up times available by contacting the Suzuki Office, or on the Suzuki Office bulletin board. If you are unable to make this time, please contact Allison Woerner for a possible alternate time. Current members wishing to audition for Level 2 Tour Group will need to audition as well.
Level 1 requirements are : 3 Octave G Major Scale slurring 2, mm=100, either part of the Concerto for 2 violins 1st mvt by J.S. Bach (must be memorized), and the Unaccompanied Gavotte by J.S. Bach (Book 5). Level 2 requirements are: 3 Octave B flat Major scale slurring 2, mm=100, and Allegro by A. Fiocco (must be memorized). Violists: 3 Octave C Major Scale slurring 2, mm=100, Concerto in d minor 1st mvt - J.S.Bach (memorized).
Auditioners will be notified by mail regarding results, and teachers will be notified via e-mail within 3 days of audition.
ATTIRE: Members are required to procure the following items.
Boys: Black Dress Pants, Black Shoes and Socks, White Tux Shirt, Black Bow Tie. Not Jacket is required. An extra Bow Tie should be kept in instrument case at all times.
Girls: Black Dress ordered through the Suzuki Program. Measurements will be taken at first Saturday Rehearsal in September for new members and anyone needing a larger size. Dress length should be TO THE FLOOR. New dresses cost roughly $55, due at delivery. Girls must also wear closed toe shoes.
PHOTOS: Group and individual photos will be taken in October before Saturday rehearsal. Prints will be available to order at cost the following Saturday rehearsal and will be available for pick-up the following Saturday.
LOCK-INS: One Saturday evening during Fall and Spring, Tour Group holds a Lock-in at a local church. Rehearsal is on Saturday Night, and a performance follows at services the following morning. Students are not required to spend the night but it is highly encouraged. 2 parents will be required to spend the night, and parents will be asked to sign up to bring an item (Ice, soda, snacks). Students will be asked to bring a favorite snack and drink to share. There will be a small fee to cover costs.
SCHEDULES: Semester Schedules will be available early September, and will also be sent via email. Please make sure you are receiving emails. A hard copy will also be given out for the Black Binders. Part Assignments will also be given out at this time.
BINDERS: Students will be required to purchase a Black 3-ring Binder to sold all music and handouts. Clear plastic page protectors are strongly encouraged for music pages.
REHEARSALS: Rehearsals follow the SIUE Calendar. First Hour begins at 10:15 (students should arrive at 10am and be ready to play AT 10:15). Second Hours resumes at 11:30 promptly. All rehearsals are held in Founder's Hall.
ATTENDANCE: Regular attendance is strongly encouraged as group development is cumulative and most effective with full participation. Any absences should be submitted in writing the week before. Emergency absences can be texted or voice-mailed to Allison before rehearsal, or emailed after rehearsal.
FUNDRAISING: A parent meeting will be held in early September. Topics to be addressed will include: Snack table, pizza lunches, poinsettias, Culver's day, Trivia night, and other opportunities. Parents will have the opportunity to sign up to assist in this important facet of Tour Group.
TOUR: 2012 will be a tour year, with several companies and destinations being evaluated. A Tour Meeting will be held in early September. Tour is not required, but has proven to be an incredible chance to perform in unbelievable locations and experience educational opportunities.
