Welcome opera lovers.  It gives me great pleasure to invite you to the 2012 - 2013 SIUE Opera Theatre Season.

The opera season opens on October 9 -  14 with performances of FAME the Musical, a collaborative production with the Department of Theatre and Dance.  On November 30 and December 1 we will perform the Broadway revue Side by Side by Sondheim.  This performance will feature Dr. Marc Schapman as part of the cast as well.  A must see!  Don't miss this exciting fall semester of musical theatre at SIUE!

The fall semester will also feature the return of SIUE Opera Theatre's outreach program Opera-tion Arts!  Directed by SIUE Alumni Robert Valentine, this program provides opportunities to area schools and organizations to experience music and opera geared towards the youth.

On March 22 and 23 we will present Edwin Penhorwood's Too Many Sopranos.  The composer will be joining us for pre-show lectures giving audience members unique insight into the creation of this work.  It will be a hilarious evening of comedy and fantastic singing!

Thank you for your support and patronage. We look forward to you joining us as we continue to bring you opera for everyone.

Sincerely,

Dr. Marc Schapman, Director of SIUE Opera Theater

Student Testimonial

Graduate student Natalie Pannier had this to say of her experience in Opera Workshop:

“The opportunity to work with talented musicians is always an enjoyable experience for me.  You had to force yourself to step outside the box with various acting exercises.  Whether it was doing improv or monologues, I think everyone pushed themselves this semester, and had a lot of fun doing it.  I always looked forward to rehearsals.  It never felt like ‘work’.  From the other singers, to the accompanists, to our director, Dr. Schapman, this was a wonderful group of people to collaborate with.  New friendships were obtained, old ones were made stronger, and we now have a fabulous group of opera scenes to share with our audiences.”
