|Peter Martin is an acclaimed jazz pianist, composer, arranger and educator. His touring career has taken him to six continents numerous times. A highlight for Peter came in January 2011 when he performed with a select group of nine jazz artists in a featured concert at the White House for a State Dinner hosted by President Obama.
Peter performed on and arranged Dianne Reeves' Grammy® winning release A Little Moonlight and appeared in George Clooney's 2005 film Good Night, and Good Luck as well as being the featured pianist and an arranger on the Grammy® winning soundtrack. Peter has also performed, toured and recorded with the Berlin Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, St. Louis Symphony and the New York Philharmonic.
Peter grew up in St. Louis, son of longtime St. Louis Symphony violist WIlliam Martin and Suzuki program founder and violinist Rose Martin. Peter graduated from University City High School in 1987.
Peter attended the Juilliard School of Music and has taught on the faculties of Northwestern University, Tulane University and NOCCA, the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts. He has performed workshops and master classes at institutions worldwide, including Oberlin College, Duke University, the Carnegie Hall Professional Training Workshops, Steinway Piano Gallery, the Rotterdam Conservatory, and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music in Glasgow. Peter is a Steinway Artist.
Peter is looking forward to working with all the jazz students at SIUE through his themed monthly seminars, private instruction with the jazz piano majors, and group interaction with the jazz combos. He is also hoping to share some of the artists he brings to the St. Louis area thru his PETER MARTIN MUSIC LIVE! concert series at the Sheldon Concert Hall with the SIUE students thru workshops and master classes.
