The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) serves as the intellectual heart of the University.
CAS offers more than 44 undergraduate and graduate degrees, ranging from the specialized to the interdisciplinary. As the largest academic unit at SIUE, CAS students have earned more than 27,500 degrees from its nineteen departments and have achieved professional success regionally, nationally and internationally as leaders in their fields.
CAS touches the lives of the entire SIUE undergraduate student population through an exceptional liberal arts and sciences general studies curriculum as well as providing specialized courses in the arts, humanities, natural sciences and social sciences for its more than 3,700 degree majors and 12,700 minors.
Pre-professional students receive an exceptional foundation on which to build future careers in
Taught by the highest caliber faculty, CAS graduate and undergraduate students experience hands-on learning in laboratories, studios and classrooms. Visiting artists and professors, a diverse faculty and student population, and a multi-cultural and interdisciplinary program of study bring the world to CAS students. Service learning, field schools and travel abroad programs take students into the world for life-changing experiences, which help to better prepare them for success in today’s global society.
By helping every student learn not what to think, but how to think, CAS provides students with transferable skills to apply at every phase of their personal and professional lives, regardless of their specific majors, career goals and life aspirations.
The College will work collaboratively with pre-professional schools at SIUE to provide the essential foundational knowledge and skills on which each unit’s advanced learning depends, thus ensuring that tomorrow’s professionals are prepared to meet the challenges of the future, particularly in the allied health professions and teaching.
