Building Plans

A major renovation and expansion of the science building has reached the serious planning stage. The objectives are to fix the health, safety and efficiency problems of a run down 35 year old building, to alleviate the overcrowded conditions in labs and offices, to provide more classrooms for the campus, and to generally modernize all the building systems and services.

"Friendly spaces" for student/student and student/faculty interaction have been included throughout.

The major features are:

  • New labs, department offices  and faculty offices constructed on the south of the lab wing,

  • A new set of mid size classrooms to the south of the auditorium tower,

  • Replacement of the upper auditorium with two floors of classroom which extend to the outside walls (bye bye balconies),

  • Replacement of the present lobby entrances with two atrium spaces one expanding further north towards Dunham Hall and the other connecting the new classrooms and offices to the south, and

  • A complete rehab of the lab wing and office tower.

Since it is really not feasible to fix HVAC,  plumbing and electrical systems etc. while using the building,  the work will be done in two stages.
