Southern Illinois University Edwardsville/The Gateway Foundation Sculpture on Campus Competition 2009-2010

Summary

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in cooperation with The Gateway Foundation, St.Louis, Missouri is accepting submissions from enrolled art students at SIUE to participate in The 9th Annual Sculpture on Campus Competition.  A maximum of 12 works will be selected for a one-year exhibition throughout the University campus.  Winners will receive a $500 stipend to assist in the materials and creation of their sculptures and will also be eligible for The Gateway Foundation $1000 Grand Prize.  A juror will select The Gateway Foundation Prizewinner once the sculptures are installed.  This year's juror is internationally known sculptor, Alice Aycock.  A reception will be held on campus (TBA) presenting the work to the University and surrounding community.

Schedule

Friday, April 3, 2009: Student Proposals are due to the Deparment of Art & Design Office by 5pm.  Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted.

April 10, 2009: Committee meets, reviews the Proposals and selects a maximum of 12 winners.  The winners will be eligible for The Gateway Foundation $1000 Grand Prize (see below)

April 13, 2009: Students are notified of selection; selected students will receive $500.00 stipend (see below), sign contract, and begin (continue) working on their sculptures.

Monday, August 24, 2009: Sculpture Installation Deadline

October 8, 2009: Lecture/presentation by visiting artist/juror, Alice Aycock; begins at approximately 12:00pm in the Art & Design Building Atrium

October 9, 2009: Opening Reception, Sculpture Walk, Alice Aycock selects $1000 Grand Prize winner
4:00pm    Sculpture walk
6:00pm    Banquet (Art & Design Atrium)

Tuesday, July 6, 2010: Sculpture Removal Deadline

*Please Note: Failure to adhere to these deadlines will result in the forfeiture of stipend and eligibility for the $1000 Grand Prize.

Stipend Information

The $500.00 stipend will be paid out in three installments:

  1. Upon selection students will receive $300.00
  2. Students will receive an additional $100.00 upon installation.
  3. The final $100.00 will be made once the sculpture is removed from the site.

Note: The competition reserves the right to photograph and/or videotape any submitted work for documentary and publicity purposes.
