Courtney R. Henson

In my work the body stands alone in its skin, vulnerable; open to attacks from the inside and out. Disease can come in biological form and also in a verbal assault from the media or beliefs held in society. In an attempt to educate myself, I look at the epistomology of taboo situations and use these as points to start art from. These pieces are then arranged in ways which are interested in exploring language; both spoken, and also what we are saying as a society when we refuse to say anything. Utilizing the cabinets of curiosities as a method of display brings my objects into the context of early museum collections. This is done with the hope that the viewer will come to the pieces with open minds and eager brains. Thinking about how we think is essential to the process of learning and learning is a further process in growth. This is where the cycle of life begins.
