The Friends of Art of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is a group of everyday people who appreciate the arts and want to see them flourish.
Becoming a member of the Friends of Art lets you share:
• Special activities such as lectures by visiting and resident artists;
• Free admission to workshops taught by well-known artists in a variety of disciplines;
• Inside information on the annual Friends of Art Auction, held each April.
• The knowledge that you are supporting various art and design activities that wouldn't happen without Friends of Art, such as art scholarships, awards for young artists, special art shows of national prominence, and a variety of workshops throughout the school year.
FOA was organized in 1977 in cooperation with the SIUE Department of Art & Design and the SIUE Foundation. We are not-for-profit and self-supporting. Activities are coordinated by a board of area people.
Probably the group's biggest event, certainly the biggest fund-raiser, is the art auction. Artworks and other appropriate "auctionables" are donated by university students, faculty and alumni, plus area art galleries and other businesses, and anyone who cares to donate.
If you would like to donate artwork, you may bring it to the Main Office at the SIUE Art & Design Building, Room 1101. Office hours are 8:00-4:30 Mon-Fri. Please fill out a donor form and attach it to your piece (click here to download a donor form). Please call 618-650-3073 for any questions.
This year's auction will be held on Thursday, April 8th at the Lewis & Clark Community College N.O. Nelson Campus. Preview begins at 6:00pm and the auction will follow at 7:00pm.
SIUE's Art & Design program has an excellent reputation among Midwestern universities and beyond. Since the opening of the Art & Design Building in 1993, that reputation is becoming even stronger.
You can become part of the excitement. It's easy and it doesn't cost much. So don't just think about it, become a friend of art today.
