50th Anniversary Time Capsule Opening - August 23rd
In preparation of SIUE's 50th Anniversary, the University opened a time capsule that was buried in 1967. The capsule contained old copies of the Alestle, the University's yearbook and other items including a note written by SIUE alum Darwin May. Darwin was a student at SIUE who happened to be walking by when they were burying the time capsule and was asked to write a note. Although Darwin does not remember what he wrote in his note and, unfortunately, most of the time capsule contents suffered water damage, Darwin hopes that his thoughts back then were profound. Darwin attended the event with his wife Edna. SIUE Chancellor Vaugh Vandegrift and 50th Anniversary Planning Committee Chair Dixie Engelman spoke during the ceremony.
