Kristen Reeb is opening Heavenly Rhythm Dance Studio in Collinsville to honor her younger sister, who died on Aug. 13, 2005 in a watercraft accident on Lake Centralia.

photo of reebHolly Reeb was an honor student at Metro East Lutheran High School in Edwardsville, and a member of the Lady Knights volleyball team and the Dancer Knights, which won the state tournament that year.

Kristen Reeb had formed the squad three years earlier. After graduation, she went to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where she earned a bachelor's degree in psychology. She has an art education degree from McKendree College as well. Among her dance accomplishments are several medals she won in state dance competitions. Today she continues to coach the Dancer Knights.

Reeb began offering dance classes the second week in June at the studio at 2229 Vandalia, in Collinsville. "Just to get our little feet in the door over the summer," she said. The studio offers lessons to males and females from ages 3 through adult. The fall session begins Sept. 4. Former students Autumn Sij and Amber Rader will also be teaching classes. All three will be on hand for open houses on Sunday, from noon to 3 p.m., and on Monday and Tuesday, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Windows have been built into the three dance studios so that parents can watch the lessons.

Heavenly Rhythm offers lessons in ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, modern dance, pre-pointe and pointe, tumbling and pom. Holly Reeb's death shocked her classmates.

Several students and parents had been visiting the lake in the few days remaining before the start of the 2005-2006 school year. Holly's faith, motivation and the example she set for others inspired Kristen Reeb to open the studio so she can serve as an inspiration to others.
