Accounting Scholars Program Helps Incoming Freshmen

The Department of Accounting has recently started the Accounting Scholars Program to aid in the development of its program. Targeted at incoming freshmen with high grades and ACT scores, the program provides students with the opportunity to participate in a variety of events including a job-shadow experience, as well as both professional and student mentoring programs. Dean's Society Dinner a Great Success

Alumna Marilyn Marsho '84 Retiring as Director of Development

The School of Business held its annual Dean's Society Dinner on Saturday, Feb. 16 at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown St. Louis. The evening consisted of an international theme, focusing on the idea of globalization in today's business. With 30 Dean's Society members in attendance, the School of Business took the evening to thank those who have contributed to the financial stability of the school and its students. Select students who have participated in the International Program in the School of Business were invited to meet the members. Alumnus Stephen Tungett '08, '10, was the guest speaker for the evening. Having traveled to Hong Kong while a business student at SIUE, Tungett spoke of how his trip helped him get where he is today.

The School of Business Director of Development, Marilyn Marsho '84, has announced her retirement with her last day set to be April 1. Prior to joining the School of Business in the fall of 2011, Marsho was the director of development for SIUE's College of Arts & Sciences for the past 13 years. Marsho formerly worked in fund development for the Girl Scouts, YWCA of Metropolitan St. Louis and the Heartland Division of the American Cancer Society. She has been an asset to SIUE and will be greatly missed.

Alumni-Only Career Fair in St. Louis

The SIUE Career Development Center will host an Employer Panel Wednesday, March 13 from 5:30- 7:30 p.m., featuring employers from Boeing, Edward Jones, Sigma Aldrich and others. Alumni and students will learn directly from employers about resume building, interviewing and more. The panel will take place in the Illinois/Mississippi Room on the second floor of the Morris University Center. Admission is free. Alumnus SJ Morrison '02 has the floor Monday, March 18 from 6-7:30 p.m. for a presentation titled "All A-Board: Serving on a Board or Committee." SJ will teach you the ins and outs of volunteer leadership, including the benefits, the various roles available in different organizations and tips on finding a volunteer opportunity that's right for you. Hors d'oeuvres will be provided, and plenty of networking will follow the presentation. SJ Morrison '02 is the SIUE Alumni Association President and Director of Marketing and Planning for Madison County Transit. The SIUE Alumni Hall of Fame recognizes and honors SIUE alumni who, through leadership, character and hard work, have made exceptional contributions in their chosen field, in their communities and at SIUE. Each School and College of the University selects inductees based on pre-determined criteria.

The honoree class members are recognized with a commemorative plaque that will be displayed in a prominent place within each of the respective Schools or College. They are also honored at the annual SIUE Alumni Hall of Fame Awards Dinner. Nominate someone you admire by completing a nomination form online.

Design the New University Seal

Win SIUE $1,000 with a Vote for the Mascot!

SIUE is hosting a competition to find a university seal, a symbol that will be used on certificates, ceremonial communication pieces, formal invitations and awards. All current and previous members of the University community - including, of course, SIUE alumni - will be eligible to submit a design. The final design will be unveiled at the installation ceremony on Friday, April 19. Delta Dental of Tennessee has teamed up with the Ohio Valley Conference for the mascot challenge. Cast your vote for SIUE�s Eddie the Cougar by visiting http://deltadentaltn.com/OVCmascots.aspx. The winning mascot will be recognized on court at the OVC Basketball Championships. Delta Dental will award $1,000 to the winning school�s general scholarship fund. All voting is done by fans and ends at noon CT Thursday, March 7.
