Cerra is a native of beautiful Southern Illinois. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Eastern Illinois University, where she studied Communication with a minor in Public Relations. She continued her educational journey by earning her Masters of Education focusing on Higher Education Administration. Her professional career in Higher Education grew from a passion for helping and serving others. Cerra has worked for multiple institutions of Higher Education, which has given her an array of diverse experiences. She has served in different functional areas including Residence Life, Recruitment, Multicultural Affairs and Undergraduate Research. Cerra prides herself as a transformative educator and believes in the value of higher education.
Cerra truly enjoys being able to help a student’s transition from high school to college by uncovering a student’s passion and matching that with the dynamic opportunities here at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She is also passionate about serving underrepresented students as well as promoting holistic student development as an admissions counselor and mentor. She is a member of the National Association of Student Affairs Professionals, Illinois Association for College Admissions Counseling, and Minorities in Communication Association.
Cerra loves spending time laughing and cracking jokes with family, and close friends. She also enjoys uplifting and empowering the African American community through social justice education.
