Graduates with a degree in business economics and finance will be well-prepared for a variety of careers and often work as financial analysts in commercial and investment banks, brokerage houses, mutual funds, life and health insurance companies, real estate investment trusts, pension funds, and corporate finance departments of non-traditional businesses. Students will also find that a degree in business economics and finance prepares them for many positions with government agencies, particularly offices addressing budget, revenues, debt management, forecasting or economic development. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the career outlook for graduates with a degree in business economics and finance is positive and is expected to grow 12 to 18 percent, depending on the chosen career field, through 2022.
The curriculum provides a solid foundation for students interested in attending law school, particularly in tax, antitrust, corporate (mergers and acquisitions) or securities law. The rigorous program prepares students for graduate school, and students with strong academic records can complete the master’s in economics and finance program at SIUE in one additional year.
