Starting a Business in Illinois Workshop Offered

Opportunity to Expand Your Project Management Skills

A workshop on 'Starting a Business in Illinois' will be held on August 23 in East St. Louis, Ill. The workshop is being conducted by the Small Business Development Center. If you are interested in finding out more about the workshop or registering to attend, please visit the Small Business Development Center’s web page at The SIUE Executive Education program has opened registration for the fall 2012 "Foundations of Project Management." This 5-day highly interactive program teaches the basics of project management as outlined by the Project Management Institute (PMI) in its Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBOK). By the end of the program, the participant will have a comprehensive understanding of the complex interplay of project management processes and have a model Project Management Plan that can be used as a template for future projects. The course begins September 7 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the SIUE Main Campus in Edwardsville. The cost of the program is $200. Bock Retires from CMIS

SIUE Alumni Night at the Lincoln Museum

After 25 years in the SIUE Department of Computer Management and Information Systems, Dr. Doug Bock retired on June 30, 2012. Many CMIS alumni through the years have worked with or been mentored by Dr. Bock. Most recently, Dr. Bock served as Chair of the department. Dr. Bock's primary teaching areas include database programming for both Windows and Web based applications. He also teaches database administration for Oracle systems and is a Microsoft Certified Solution Developer for .NET technologies (MCSD.NET). Dr. Anne Powell succeeds Dr. Bock as Chair of the department.
Join us for an elegant evening at the world-class Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum on Saturday, September 29th.
The evening includes a host bar cocktail reception, dinner in the museum rotunda, and private access to the museum and all its exhibits. July 22nd we once again celebrated SIUE Alumni Day at Busch Stadium. Our new chancellor Dr. Julie Furst-Bowe was honored with the opportunity to throw out the first pitch as the Cardinals played the Cubs. Watch the video at The SIUE Alumni Association has partnered with the SIUE Office of Educational Outreach to offer fall 2012 non-credit language classes at a discount to Alumni Association members. Offerings range from Introduction to Chinese to Intermediate Spanish with most classes beginning in September. Cougar Coaching Changes

The SIUE Alumni Association has teamed with TalentMarks to offer a series of nine webinars featuring experts on interviewing, changing careers, resume building, utilizing social media in the job search and developing your own brand. The webinars begin in October and are free to all SIUE alumni. These webinars can be viewed from wherever you are. Details for accessing these career building webinars will be provided in the September newsletter.
When SIUE baseball takes the field for the 2013 season, it will do so without long-time coach Gary "Bo" Collins. After 34 years, Collins is leaving the dugout to become the director of development for Intercollegiate Athletics. He leaves his coaching job with a record of 1,028-766-7, more wins than any other coach in any other sport at SIUE. SIUE alumnus Tony Stoecklin takes over the coaching duties. SIUE Athletics is also proud to announce Paula Buscher has been selected as the new head coach for the SIUE women's basketball team. Buscher replaces Amanda Levins and comes to SIUE after spending 12 seasons at Bradley University. More...

"Let the Good Times Roar" is the theme for the 2012 edition of the SIUE Homecoming. It all starts with the School of Dental Medicine Homecoming celebration on the Alton campus on Saturday, October 6th and concludes with a Women's Soccer Game on Sunday, October 14th. In between, there are activities for everyone, so visit for the complete schedule and make plans to come back for a visit to your alma mater.
