SIUE Faculty-Led Short Term Study Abroad Programs

In addition to semester-long study abroad programs at a foreign institution, SIUE students have the opportunity to gain international experience through a variety of short-term programs led by SIUE faculty. These programs involve SIUE courses taught by SIUE faculty, but away from the SIUE campus, in a foreign location that complements or is the focus of the course topic. The nature of faculty-led short term programs varies widely depending on the discipline and destination. Faculty-led programs also vary in duration, generally lasting from 1-6 weeks, with most programs offered in summer term. Faculty-led programs to be offered in a particular year usually are not fully approved with finalized details until fall of the preceding year.

How do I find a list of 2014 SIUE Faculty-Led Programs?

To view SIUE short term faculty led programs offered in 2014, go to Advanced Program Search and select "Faculty Led" in the Program Type box. Then click "Search" at the bottom of the page. As of the end of August 2013, there are still additional 2014 faculty led programs under development. These will be added to the online catalog of program as soon as details are finalized. Please check back.

Applying

Students interested in a short-term faculty-led program must apply and be approved for participation in that program. Most programs have enrollment caps, and students are approved on a selective and competitive basis by the program faculty leader(s). For complete details, see Apply to SIUE Faculty-Led Short-Term Program.

Costs and Payments

Faculty-led short-term programs involve both a program fee and SIUE tuition charges. The program fee usually includes airfare, on-site transportation, on-site accommodations and, depending on the nature of the program, may include tours, field trips, group meals, etc. It is important to understand what the program fee does and does not include, because not all of these programs are set up in the same way. Payment of the program fee and payment due dates vary from program to program, but applicants should plan to pay the program fee in full by the due date. For summer programs, program fees typically are due early in the spring semester.

SIUE tuition for the SIUE courses in which students enroll as part of the program will be assessed on the SIUE bursar bill. These courses are excluded from assessment of all SIUE student fees except for the Info-Technology Fee. See Student Fees for more information.
