Academic Computing Laboratories - Open access and special purpose computer laboratories and classrooms are managed by Academic Computing. Clusters of computer laboratories are maintained on campus. The residence halls, Cougar Village, Lovejoy Library, and all classroom buildings have open-access computer laboratories. Academic Counseling and Advising - Once each term you meet with your academic adviser to plan or review progress in achieving your academic program. After admission to the major, your adviser is a faculty or staff member in that department. Undeclared undergraduates apply for a major through Academic Counseling and Advising, located in Peck Hall, Room 1315. (Exceptions are the undeclared students assigned to the advisers in Special Services, Disability Support Services and the Athletic Advising Office.) To contact the office call (618) 650-3701. Adding A Course - Beginning the first day of classes, all undergraduate classes are closed.  However, students may add a class with a Class Permit Card carrying approval signatures of the instructor and adviser.   During the second week, all students will need the signatures of the instructor, adviser, and chair to add a class.  The only classes which may be added after the second week are those which start after the end of the second week. No registrations or additions will be accepted after that date. Exceptions to this policy must be requested in writing and must be approved by the appropriate dean and the Registrar. Admission Counseling - Admission counselors assist with admission to the University. They can answer your questions about admission, transfer procedures, advisement, and registration.  Contact the office by phone (618) 650-3705 or by e-mail to admissions@siue.edu. Admissions, Undergraduate, Graduate, and International - Completion of high school course requirements and transfer credit application for meeting general education requirements are all evaluated in the Office of Admissions located in Rendleman Hall, Room 1207. Alcohol and Other Drug Awareness - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville encourages you to use alcohol responsibly when you are of appropriate age. The use of alcohol by anyone under the age of 21 is illegal and may lead to arrest, notification of your parents, and student disciplinary action.  The University deplores the use of illegal drugs and will rigorously enforce federal, state, and local laws.  For information regarding the University's alcohol and drug initiatives, please contact Counseling Services at (618) 650-2197.

The Alestle - The student newspaper, the primary student publication, employs students as writers, photographers, editors, and office staff. The newspaper provides mass communication majors and other students with opportunities to work in a laboratory setting while gaining experience in various aspects of production, advertisement, sales, copy writing, and editing. Appeals - For information about refund of tuition and fees appeals, call the Dean of Students at (618) 650-2020 or stop by the office in Rendleman Hall, Room 2306. Art Galleries - The University has a magnificent collection of art and art objects. Two art galleries, used for displays and exhibitions, are located in the Morris University Center and in the Art and Design Building, but much of the University's collection is displayed in public areas throughout the campus. Arts & Issues - The University sponsors a series of distinguished speakers and performers each year. Students meet and discuss issues with renowned speakers at dinners and receptions and work directly with outstanding performers in workshops and master classes. Billing Information – For students on the Installment Payment Plan, there are four billings in the fall and spring terms and three in the summer term.  You are automatically on the Installment Payment Plan by making less than the full amount due on the first bill.  A $20 charge per term will be added to your account if you use the Installment Payment Plan.  For more information, email bursar@siue.edu or visit the website at: http://www.siue.edu/BURSAR/.

Bookstore - You may purchase texts, study aids, magazines, classroom supplies, cards, gifts logo clothing, and many other items at the Bookstore located in Morris University Center. Bowling and Billiards - Morris University Center is home to Cougar Lanes, a newly renovated recreation area that features 16 bowling lanes complete with the latest in automatic scoring, cosmic lighting, and upgraded seating. Both the billiards area and the newly developed table tennis area feature championship quality tables, while a large arcade consists of a wide selection of video games. Bursar – The services of the Bursar’s office include receiving student account payments, distributing student payroll checks, cashing checks, mailing refund checks, and mailing 1098Ts for tax reporting.  The Bursar’s Office is located on the first floor of the Rendleman Hall.  Cashiers are available 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Payments may be made via the web from Cougar Net and the Bursar’s Office website at http://www.siue.edu/BURSAR or mailed to Box 1042.  A Bursar Satellite Station is located in the Service Center.  Hours will be consistent with the Service Center hours except the Satellite Station will be closed on Saturday.  Extended evening hours will be announced for peak weeks each term.  The satellite cashier is able to perform all Bursar transactions except distributing payroll and refund checks.  For more information, email bursar@siue.edu or visit our web site: http://www.siue.edu/BURSAR.

Campus Activities Board (CAB) - This is a student operated organization that serves asa student fee advisory board and a programming board.. CAB's main goal is to improve campus life by providing social, recreational, educational, and cultural events at SIUE. Campus Network - The campus network, SIUENET, interconnects all computers throughout the Edwardsville campus, Alton Dental School, and the East St. Louis Center. Dial-in users access SIUENET through the modem pool.  The Office of Information Technology provides e-mail accounts and dial-in access assistance. You activate your e-mail account and make changes to your password on the web at http://www.siue.edu/e-ID/. Campus Recreation - Get involved in a wide variety of recreational and leisure activities through the Student Fitness Center and the Vadalabene Center. Many informal sports and recreational events are scheduled. Campus Services - This section of Lovejoy Library provides faculty, staff, and students with audiovisual equipment for academic use. Career Development Center - The services of the Career Development Center include individual counseling to assist students/alumni with choice of major, career alternatives, career development issues, career transitions, resume development, job search strategies, interviewing techniques, assessments, and interest and personality inventories. Currently enrolled students may participate in the Cooperative Education Program. The office also maintains information about internships at SIUE. Child Care Services - Preschool education is available for children of SIUE students, University employees, and community members.  This center is located on North West Road off Circle Drive.  The Early  Childhood Center is open from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday.  Parents may choose from full day or morning programs.  Children between the ages of two and five may be enrolled.  For more information and for possible evening hours during the fall and spring semesters, contact the Early Childhood Center at (618) 650-2556 or visit the web site at   http://www.siue.edu/EARLYCHILDHOOD/

Choral Groups - The University, primarily through the Department of Music, sponsors several musical groups, including two unauditioned groups which include the University Singers and Community Choral Society, and one auditioned group which is the Concert Choral. Closing of the University - When the decision has been made by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration to close the University due to inclement weather, announcements will be made (by 5:30 a.m. if time permits) as follows:

CougarNet - You may use the web to get a copy of your class schedule, an unofficial transcript, check your grades, find out how much you owe, check on your financial aid awards, identify open or closed courses prior to registration, view all your addresses, change your billing and local addresses and other official information. With your student identification number and a PIN (personal identification number that you create the first time you use CougarNet), you may access CougarNet from one of the special CougarNet terminals in the Service Center in Rendleman Hall, Room 1309, from any other CougarNet terminal on-campus, from any campus computer lab or from any computer hooked to the internet.  For information, call the Service Center at (618) 650-2080.  Additional information may be obtained from the web site  http://www.siue.edu/COUGARNET/

Counseling Service - Counseling service assist members of the SIUE community in coping with personal, social, emotional and cognitive issues. Services include individual counseling, psycho- educational programs, crisis intervention, consultation and referral. Special attention is paid to ongoing issues affecting college students today. Credit Union - The SWICSIU Credit Union offers financial services to the entire SIUE community--students, faculty, staff, alumni and University Park employees.  Located at the end of Lewis Road on the eastern edge of the SIUE campus, the Credit Union offers savings, checking, VISA check/ATM cards, Visa Charge Cards, Audio Response (24-hour banking), Internet Banking, loans, and much more.  The Credit Union ATM is conveniently located on University Park Drive. Dining Services - All students housed in the residence halls must purchase either the Plan A or Plan B meal plan. Students residing at Cougar Village may purchase one of the above meal plans or the Cougar Village Voluntary Meal Plan. The Cougar Village Voluntary Meal Plan may be purchased in $100, $250, $500 increments. Students who live off campus may deposit money in the Cougar Debit account system and use it to make purchases at dining venues. Meal plans and the Cougar Debit accounts are accessible by using the student ID card (Cougar Card). Student living on campus who participate in Plan A, Plan B, or the Cougar Village Voluntary Meal Plan do not incur sales tax on purchases. All purchases made through the Cougar Debit account system incur sales tax. All campus dining venues accept meal plans and the Cougar Debit Accounts. Directory - The University publishes a directory of students, faculty and staff each fall. If you wish to have your directory information withheld, you must complete the requisite form in the Service Center before the end of the second week of the fall semester. Faculty and staff who wish to have directory information withheld should complete the required form in the Office of Personnel Services, Rendleman Hall, room 3229. Disability Support Services - The Disability Support Service office implements and coordinates many programs and services for persons with disabilities. The coordinator of Disability Support Services provides counseling and academic advising. Dropping Classes - During weeks one and two of a semester, you may drop a class without permission of your instructor and have no entry on your transcript. During weeks 3 through 10 you may drop a class without approval of the instructor, but a grade of "W" is automatically assigned. During weeks 11through 13, you may drop a class after receiving approval from the instructor and your adviser, but a grade of "WP" or "WF" must be assigned by the instructor. "WF" will be computed as an "F" in your GPA. No class may be dropped after week 13 of the fall and spring semesters. Deadlines to drop summer term classes will be shorter. e-ID - Your e-ID, short for electronic identification, along with its corresponding password is your means of identifying yourself to various electronic services available at SIUE. It is composed of a combination of your first initial(s) and last name, up to seven
characters long (i.e. jdoe). You need an active e-ID in order to access your E-mail, to access WebCT courses, to obtain your STAN, to publish a personal web page, and to dial into the modem pool from home. Creation and maintenance of your e-ID, including changing the password, is done through the e-ID web site: http://www.siue.edu/e-ID/.

E-mail - SIUE uses E-mail to inform and advise students about items of interest and importance to the University community. Anyone with an active e-ID and password can send and receive E-mail using a web browser at http://webmail.siue.edu. Students are advised to check their SIUE E-mail account on a daily basis.

Emergency Phones - The University has a network of 63 emergency telephones.  Phones are located along walkways and in parking lots.  Each phone has two buttons.  One, labeled, “INFO”, is used for instances such as flat tires, dead batteries, etc.  The other, “PRESS FOR HELP”, is used for emergency calls and activates the strobe light located within the unit itself.  Both phone lines go directly to University Police dispatchers who are able to identify the location of the caller from their console.

Escort Service - If you feel unsafe walking between the main campus and your vehicle or apartment, contact University Police to request an escort.  An officer will either provide a ride or accompany you to your destination. Fast Copy - Fast Copy Service is located in the basement of Rendleman Hall, Room 0315, and provides copy/duplicating services to faculty, staff, and students. This office maintains convenience, speed, quality, and economy for many types of projects such as memoranda, proposals, reports, or tests. Projects can normally be completed in a few hours to a day depending on the complexity of the service requested. Fast Copy Service also manages a student copiers network and the campus-wide office copier system. Hours are 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information, call (618) 650-3629.

Financial Clearance -You must be financially cleared to avoid having your classes dropped. You may be financially cleared by paying all charges in full, making the minimum required installment payment, or having enough financial aid to cover your payment due. Fitness Center, Student - The Student Fitness Center is dedicated to student recreational use and includes four multipurpose courts, an elevated jogging track, indoor pool, weight room facilities, an aerobics room, a climbing wall, and a Wellness Center designed to provide health and fitness assessment and prescription. Graduation Applications - Undergraduates, should review the completion of all graduation requirements with your adviser periodically. When you reach senior status (90 hours) you can submit your Application for Graduation to the Service Center, Rendleman Hall, Room 1309. Applications must be submitted no later than the first day of term in which you intend to graduate. Greek Student Organizations - The University offers students opportunities to become involved in sixteen fraternities and sororities. Greeks strive for academic excellence. Chapters frequently organize tutoring programs, study hours, and offer resources and programs for members. Health Service - Health Service provides general outpatient care, immunizations, laboratory diagnostic testing, women's health, and pharmacy services to members of the University community. Health Service, Room 0224, located on the lower level of Rendleman Hall, may be reached by calling (618) 650-2842. Honorary Student Organizations - Honorary student organization members usually invite academically talented students to membership based upon a student's major and superior academic achievements. The University has eighteen honorary organizations. Honors Scholars Program - The Honors Scholars Program is open to Chancellor's Scholars, Presidential Scholars, and other honors students by invitation. Entering freshman are required to have a combined percentile of 180 for ACT/SAT scores and high school class rank. Current students or transfer students with 30 or more semester hours of credit must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 (4.0 scale) or better. The Honors Scholars Program offers several advantages for honors students. Housing - Approximately 3,000 students can be accommodated in residence halls and apartment-style housing. Prairie Hall is designed for traditional freshmen and emphasizes acclimating new students at SIUE. Woodland Hall is open to all undergraduate students.  Bluff Hall opened in 2001 and emphasizes academic exploration.  Apartment-style housing is located at Cougar Village Apartments where students are accommodated with a fully-furnished apartment. Immunization - All students must provide proof of immunization against measles, mumps, rubella, and tetanus/diphtheria as required by Illinois state law. Information Office - The Information Office is located in the Morris University Center and is the source of University information relative to scheduled events and activities. Job Finder-Student Employment - The student employment staff of Student Financial Aid maintains a database of on-campus and off-campus jobs on the World Wide Web at http://www.stuemp.siue.edu/. Students meeting University eligibility requirements for student employment can search the database for information on jobs and employers. As many as 1,000 jobs may be listed at peak employment periods. Kimmel Leadership Center - Students have many opportunities to develop their leadership skills at SIUE. Among the opportunities offered are the Student Leadership Development Program, volunteer projects, service learning, Student Government, University-wide committees, student organization officer positions, and the Campus Activities Board and fraternities and sororities. Library and Information Services - Lovejoy Library has more than 800,000 volumes, 27,000 audio-visual resources, and 12,000 subscriptions. Online services include a shared, statewide academic library catalog, almost 60 electronic databases, and more than 7,000 full-text journals. Resource sharing agreements provide access to libraries in the St. Louis area, as well as throughout Illinois, the United States and worldwide. The Library is open 93.5 hours a week. Mathematics Resource Area - If you are enrolled in developmental mathematics courses or College Algebra, you may receive tutorial assistance in the Mathematics Resource Area in Peck Hall, Room 1414. Students are helped on a first-come, first-served basis by qualified peer tutors and instructors. Parking Tickets - A parking ticket may be paid in Parking Services, Rendleman Hall, Room 1113, within 10 working days of the ticket issue date.  Payments may also be made by mail. If so, make check and money orders payable to SIUE and mail to SIUE, Parking Services, Box 1044, Edwardsville, Illinois 62026-1044. DO NOT MAIL CASH. Include the ticket with the payment.  A payment drop box is also located in Lot C (behind Rendleman Hall). Place the ticket and payment in an envelope then deposit the envelope in the drop box. Parking Services - Parking Services manages the sale of  hang tags for parking on University premises. All students who park a vehicle on University property must purchase and display a current, valid SIUE permit. Parking for Persons with Disabilities - Spaces have been designated for parking for persons with disabilities. These spaces are marked with the international symbol. Students with disabilities are required to purchase a University disability permit and must display it along with a state-issued disability permit or license plate. Pharmacy - Health Service, located on the lower level of Rendleman Hall, provides a pharmacy for faculty, staff, and student use. Hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Post Office - SIUE maintains a branch post office located on the lower level of Rendleman Hall, Room 0232. The services of the post office include domestic and international mail; express mail; parcel post; stamps; postal money orders (domestic); registered mail (accepted until 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday); certified mail; federal income tax forms; and rental of postal lock boxes. Provost's Office - The Provost's office, also called the Office of the Provost and the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, is located in Rendleman Hall, Room 3102. The office is responsible for developing and executing the academic mission of the University. Academic questions and questions about academic grievances may be directed to this office. Students, faculty, and staff make complaints of sexual harassment to this office. Information on the Honors Scholars Program may be obtained here. Housed within the office is the Assistant Provost for Cultural and Social Diversity who is responsible for assisting in the recruitment and retention of minority students, faculty, and staff, the Johnetta Haley Scholars Academy, and Pathways to Harmony; the Office of the Director of Assessment who is responsible for the Undergraduate Research Academy; and the Program Director for Excellence in Learning and Teaching. Registrar  Offering services to past, present and future students, The Office of the Registrar is located in Rendlemann Hall. This office is responsible for maintaining and protecting access to students' academic records. Services include registration, enrollment certification, transcripts access, degree application processing, veterans' certification , transfer articulation and academic scheduling. Many services provided by the Office of the Registrar may be accessed through the Service Center. Security -  The "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act" (previously known as The Federal Student Right to Know and Campus Security Act of 1990) requires certain crime statistics be furnished to students and employees.  The statistical report also includes definitions and a statistical breakdown based on the National Incident-Based Reporting System rules pertaining to the reporting of sex offenses.  The Annual Security Report of campus security policies and crime statistics is published each fall and is available through the University's web site  http://admin.siue.edu/studentrightto/. For those without computer access, a paper copy of the report may be obtained upon request (24-hour notice required for a paper copy) from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration, Rendleman Hall, Room 2228, Campus Box 1158, Edwardsville, Illinois 62026-1158. Self-Help Room - the Self-Help Room is a service for students who wish to produce their own instructional materials (hot and cold laminations, binding, and transparencies) for use in the classroom. Audio Visual staff are available in the library, Room 0045, to dispense supplies at a minimal charge and provide technical assistance. A valid SIUE I.D. is required. Service Center -Much of your business can be completed at the Service Center in Rendleman Hall, Room 1309. In this one location you can find help with all of the following: class registration, adds, drops, and withdrawals; tuition calculation; permanent address, name and student ID number changes; Cougar Card IDs; Illinois residency applications; graduation applications; debit plan deposits; CougarNet access to your student records; transcript requests; and much more. The Service Center even has extended evening hours. Student Identification Cards - Cougar Card - Students receive an identification card, called a Cougar Card, which bears their image and identifies them as enrolled students at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. The Cougar Card is an all-purpose card that is used for identification and may be used for meal plans, a debit plan (for dining, vending, printing and copying and bookstore purchases) and admittance to SIUE buildings and events. The Cougar Card can access two monetary accounts: a debit account (money that may be spent anywhere the card is accepted) and a University Housing meal plan account. Although the Cougar Card is entrusted to those who are enrolled at or employed by the University, it is a legal document and remains the property of the University. Students who lend, borrow, use a card other than their own, or alter a Cougar Card are subject to disciplinary action; in addition, such action may be considered a crime. The Cougar Card should be carried at all times in order to use a multitude of campus services. Student Legal Services - You may seek legal advice from a licensed attorney on such matters as landlord/tenant disputes, contracts, consumer rights, family matters, bankruptcy, small claims matters, traffic matters, and wills.  The attorney provides referrals to other attorneys as well as a notary service.  The attorney's services are free.  For more information, call (618) 797-2800 for an appointment.

Student Rights and Responsibilities - SIUE strives to create the environment for a solid foundation for intellectual development. To achieve that goal, The Student Academic Code provides an outline of expectations for student's behavior in the classroom; examples of academic misconduct, as well as the process for adjudicating academic misconduct with the intention that the process is fair, just and educational. The Student Grievance Code outlines the process for students to initiate a grievance against faculty and staff members for violations of their rights as set forth in the code. Finally, The Student Conduct Code addresses the expectations of student behavior and outlines the procedures to adjudicate student misconduct to assure that student rights to due process are respected and exercised. Personal Telephone Lines are available for residential students living at the residence halls and at Cougar Village.  Included in a $36.00 per semester fee are a private telephone number, voice mail, and caller ID capabilities. Testing Services - This office, in Peck 1404, administers several standardized tests: GRE (subject), ACT, CLEP, and MAT. SIUE services include administration of the SIUE Placement Test and SIUE Proficiency tests. Textbook Service - Located at 200 University Park Drive, Room 1121, Textbook Service rents textbooks to undergraduate students for a nominal fee. Supplemental texts, graduate textbooks, and other classroom supplies are sold through the University Bookstore which is located on the first floor of Morris University Center. Ticket Office - The Information Office, located in Morris University Center, provides ticket sales for most University events, Monday through Thursday, 8:00 am-5:30 pm, and Friday 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Union Station, also located in Morris University Center, provides evening ticket sales. To purchase tickets after hours, please call (618) 650-5555 and leave a voice mail message with your name and telephone number. Transportation - Madison County Transit (MCT) provides transportation services on campus and to many adjacent communities, including Edwardsville, Glen Carbon, Collinsville, Alton, Highland, East St. Louis, and others. You may take the bus to MetroLink for transportation to St. Louis. Bus schedules are available on campus at the following locations: Information Center in Morris Center; Cougar Village (Commons Building); all Residence Halls;  lobbies of Rendleman Hall (near Bursar's Office); and Peck Hall (near Instructional Services). Union Station - This convenience store sells snacks and refreshments, and is a valuable campus resource location. University Police – The University Police Department is located in the Supporting Services building and provides services 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.  Emergency 911 calls are directed to the University Police, which is responsible for dispatching appropriate police, fire, or ambulance services.  Other services provided include assistance in jumpstarting vehicles; retrieving keys from locked vehicles, and loaning tools to engrave items for prevention of theft.  University Police also provide an evening escort service.  The non-emergency number for University Police is (618) 650-3324.  The Emergency number is 911.  Additional information may be obtained from the web site http://www.siue.edu/POLICE/

University Theater Productions - The Department of Theater and Dance produces an academic season and a summer season of shows. The academic season tickets are available to SIUE students free, compliments of University Housing and the Office of Student Affairs. The mainstage stage and the box office are located in Dunham Hall. Additional productions are mounted at the Metcalf Student Theater. Summer Showbiz offers two mainstage events in June and July. Wellness Center - The Wellness Center is located in the Student Fitness Center. The Center coordinates several national initiatives and provides personal fitness and lifestyle assessments along with recommendations for change. Individual consultations help with exercise program design, development of good nutritional habits, stress management, and other elements related to personal well-being. Withdrawing from the University - If you find it necessary to withdraw from the University during any term, you must initiate official withdrawal procedures in the Service Center, Rendleman Hall, Room 1309. All withdrawals must be cleared by the Office of Student Financial Aid, and must be completed by the end of the 13th week of classes during fall and spring, and by the end of the 8th week for summer full-term classes. Different deadlines apply to short-term classes or workshops scheduled in non-traditional formats. Writing Center - Located in Peck Hall, Room 1419, the Writing Center staff assists students with papers, reports, and theses. WSIE Public Radio - The radio station is operated by the University 24 hours a day, 365 days a year from studios in Dunham Hall. The station is staffed by five full-time professionals and student employees and volunteers. Students receive practical training in all areas of radio broadcasting.
