The 2004 Fall Faculty Symposium will be held on October 28 (9:00 pm to 4:30 pm) and October 29 (9 am to 12:30 pm) of 2004.  The general theme for the symposium is "Balancing Roles and Careers in Academic Life."

The keynote speaker is Mary Taylor Huber.  As a scholar at the Carnegie Foundation, Dr. Huber has done extensive research in teaching and learning in higher education.  Her latest work "Balancing Acts: The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Academic Careers" explores the art of integrating the scholarship of teaching into academic life.  Please visit http://www.carnegiefoundation.org/publications/balancing_acts.htm for more details about this work.  Also see http://www.carnegiefoundation.org/aboutus/staff/huber.htm for a more detailed biography of Dr. Huber.

The symposium will consist of sessions that will discuss the different career choices made by faculty in higher education, how faculty at SIUE have successfully balanced their careers, and tips for success at SIUE.
