                          DEPARTMENT OF THEATER AND DANCE

TITLE/RANK:      Instructor/Costume Shop Supervisor

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:      Responsible for overseeing and managing the process of constructing costumes and costume pieces.  Candidate must be skilled in all areas of costume design and construction including pattern making, cutting, fittings, alterations, and construction.  Manage and supervise shop, rentals, and all costume needs of the department.  Oversee shop budgets including productions and rentals under the supervision of tenure line costume faculty.  Schedule and coordinate fittings, and manage fitting process.  Teach construction and supervise student labs and shop workers.  Secure, order, and maintain materials, supplies, equipment, facilities, and costume stock.  Hire and supervise student costume shop staff.  Opportunities to teach and/or design as production schedule and departmental needs permit.  Work under the supervision of tenure line costume faculty.  Summer opportunities possible.  Other duties as assigned.  This is a non-tenure track position.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT:    Academic beginning August 16, 2008 through May 15, 2009, with the possibility of renewal.  Percent of appointment 100%.

SOURCE OF FUNDS:     State

SALARY RANGE:     Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:      MFA in Theater, Design and/or Technical Theater or related terminal degree preferred.  Bachelor's with etensive professional experience considered.  Experience as a costume shop supervisor at a college or university, or in professional theater, with expertise in fiscal and personnel management, and pattern making preferred.

TITLE/RANK:      Assistant Professor

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:     Teach courses in Theater Design, General Education, and other related theater courses at the undergraduate level.  Courses may include Scene Design and Construction, Lighting Design I and II, Theater Graphics, Computers for the Theater, Scene Design II, Sound for the Theater, and The Dramatic Experience (General Education course for non-majors).  Possibilities exist for new course development to fill departmental and University needs.  Assist in mentoring student designers on main-stage and student productions.  Assist in recruiting prospective students into Theater and Dance programs.  Share design assignments for department productions with other theater design faculty members.  Other design specialties will be considered.  Other duties as assigned.  Tenure-track position.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT:    Academic beginning August 16, 2008.  9 month appointment beginning August 16 through May 15.  Percent of appointment 100%.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:       MFA or Ph.D. in Theater, preferably in Scenic or Lighting Design, expertise in other Theater Design areas and/or professional Theater Design experience highly desirable.  Evidence of proficiency in Scenic/Lighting Design and successful teaching at the college or university setting.  The ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students and to collaborate on the theater process.  Candidate must be computer literate.  Familiarity with computer-aided design (AutoCAD, VectorWorks), WYSIWYG, VectorWorks Spotlight, Photoshop and other design related programs a plus.
