"TREACHEROUS"
TAU GAMMA
CHAPTER HISTORY
Tau Gamma is a chapter that was formed with the purpose
of joining like men with similiar ideas for success
through scholarship at Southern Illinois University of
Edwardsville. On April 4, 1965 this idea became a
reality. Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. was the first
black fraternity established at Southern Illinois
University at Edwarsville, and later expanded to help
form a chapter at Southern Illinois Universtiy at
Carbondale in 1971.
Since then, Tau Gamma Chapter has released some of
the most successful businessmen, politicians and
educators into our society. During it's first stage of
developement, it was an intermediate chapter, which
embraced all men interested in the "true fraternal life" from both sides of the
river. Nu Chi, a graduate chapter in East St. Louis
was the catalyst in Tau Gammas' birth.
The thoroughly immersed nature of this chapter's
rich history will continue to influennce young
enthusiastic men. Tau Gamma has persevered to be
responsive to the social issues in the Metro-east
communities by unselfishly displaying its
inspirational, social, educational, and civic talents
to our youth. The unconditional and genuine love Tau
Gamma bretheren have for the fraternity gives them the
incentive to make a difference in the lives of others.
