Chemistry Club Meeting: 4/6/07

The ninth annual Chemistry Club meeting was held Friday, April 6, 2007, at 1:30 p.m. in the Chemistry Club Room (SL 1107). Mariellen Sydow, Crystal Hise, and Lindsey Hamilton were officers present.

Thank you to Dawn Powell and Jaclyn Cofield for a successful Probst lecture. Also, the Kimmel Funding papers were filed correctly. We will be eligible for funding again next year.

The Canned Food Drive was held March 26 28, 2007. Thank you to Brian Moore for organizing this event. The items will be donated to the Glen Ed Pantry after finals. The leftover books from the book/bake sale also need to be returned to storage.

Lindsey Hamilton and Jennifer Redding attended the 233rd annual ACS Convention and accepted a Commendable Achievements award on behalf of SIUE Chemistry Club. The award will be displayed in the new display case bought by the Chemistry Department.

Chemistry Club has applied for four Kimmel Scholarships: Club of the Year, New Program of the Year, Educational Program of the Year, and Advisor of the Year. The award ceremony will be held on April 25, 2007.

The pentathlon will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2007 from 11:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. Chemistry Club has reserved the SIUE RecPlex and softball field. All clubs should meet at the softball field at 11:00 a.m. The five events will be softball, relay race, volleyball, hillbilly golf, and an embarrassing faculty event. Equipment should be picked up on Friday, April 20, 2007 by 3:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided.

Dr. Johnson has agreed to host the Spring BBQ. He will be unable to host on Friday, April 27, 2007, because the architects will be in town. He is available on April 20, 2007; however, Mariellen and Crystal will be in Springfield and unable to attend. We will ask another faculty member to host on April 27, 2007. Volunteers are needed to help set up and bring food. A sign-up sheet will be available.

The next meeting should be April 20, 2007, but since Mariellen and Crystal will be gone the meeting is being moved to April 27, 2007. The elections will be held at this time. Officer positions include president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, and webmaster. All candidates will give a speech and may campaign. Talk to any present officer to learn more about each position.

The meeting was concluded at 1:56 p.m.
