Physics Graduate Program

The Department of Physics at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville is proud to offer a novel Master of Science (M.S.) degree program.  This terminal-degree program is designed to develop experimental, computational, and research skills in advanced topics in physics. Students will have valuable practical skills as well as fundamental knowledge, appropriate for whose who are seeking careers in industry and also applicable to those who intend to pursue a doctoral degree at another institution.

We offer three basic tracks in the Physics graduate program:

The Photonics option and the Computational / Condensed Matter option are especially appropriate for someone seeking a career in industry.  The Physics and Astronomy Education Research option is especially appropriate for students planning a post-secondary teaching or education research career.  All three options are also appropriate for part-time students, including in-service teachers, who are employed in SIUE’s service region, since many of the required physics lecture courses are offered in the evenings.

For more information about our program, please follow the menu links on this page, or consult the SIUE Graduate Catalog, or contact the Department of Physics.
