Physics Graduate Program
Admission and Financial Aid

Applying to the Physics Graduate Program

Applicants must satisfy the general requirements for admission to Master's Degree programs as set by the Graduate School.  In addition, an applicant must have a grade point average of at least 3.0 (on an A = 4.0 scale) in his/her undergraduate major, which must be in physics or a closely related discipline such as optics, electrical engineering, materials science, computer science, or other discipline subject to the approval of the Physics Graduate Faculty.

To apply to the Physics graduate program at SIUE, you need to:

  1. Apply to the Graduate School at SIUE.  See the Graduate School's Admission and Application Procedures for instructions and to download the required forms.  These forms, as well as official transcripts (and TOEFL scores for foreign students) must be sent to the Graduate School.

  2. Apply to the Physics Department at SIUE.  This is done by filling out the Application for Graduate Studies and Financial Aid form, and is necessary whether or not you wish financial aid in addition to admission.  You can download this form as a PDF file here:

This form must be sent to:  Graduate Admissions Committee, Department of Physics, Box 1654, Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, IL 62026-1654, U.S.A.  In order to be assured of full consideration for admission, your application forms and other materials must be received by the Physics Department by February 1.  See the application form for other details.  Do not use this form if you are applying only for a Teaching Assistantship and not applying for admission into the Physics Graduate Program; instead use the Application for Financial Aid form (see below).

Applying for Financial Aid as a Non-Major

To apply for Financial Aid (Teaching Assistantship) in Physics if you are already in another SIUE program, you need to fill out the Application for Financial Aid form.  You can download this form as a PDF file here:
