Physics Graduate Program
Admission and Financial Aid
Applying to the Physics Graduate Program
Applicants must satisfy the
general requirements for admission to Master's Degree programs as set by
the Graduate School.
In addition, an applicant must have a grade point average of at least 3.0
(on an A = 4.0 scale) in his/her undergraduate major, which must be in physics
or a closely related discipline such as optics, electrical engineering, materials science,
computer science, or other discipline subject to the approval of the
Physics Graduate Faculty.
To apply to the Physics graduate program at SIUE,
you need to:
- Apply to the Graduate School at SIUE.
See the Graduate School's Admission and Application Procedures for instructions and to download the
required forms.
These forms, as well as official transcripts (and TOEFL scores for foreign students)
must be sent to the Graduate School.
- Apply to the Physics Department at SIUE.
This is done by filling out the Application for Graduate Studies and Financial Aid
form, and is necessary whether or not you wish financial aid in addition to admission.

This form must be sent to:
Graduate Admissions Committee, Department of Physics, Box 1654, Southern Illinois University,
Edwardsville, IL 62026-1654, U.S.A.
In order to be assured of full consideration for admission, your application forms and other
materials must be received by the Physics Department by February 1.

Do not use this form if you are applying only for a Teaching Assistantship and
not applying for admission into the Physics Graduate Program; instead use the
Application for Financial Aid form (see below).
Applying for Financial Aid as a Non-Major
To apply for Financial Aid (Teaching Assistantship) in Physics if you
are already in another SIUE program, you need to fill out the Application for Financial
Aid form. You can download this form as a PDF file here:

This form requires the approval of your Program Director and Adviser,
and must be sent to:
Graduate Admissions Committee, Department of Physics, Box 1654, Southern Illinois University,
Edwardsville, IL 62026-1654, U.S.A.
Unofficial copies of your undergraduate and graduate transcripts must also be sent to the
Physics Department at this address.
In order to be assured of full consideration for a fall TA, your application forms and other
materials must be received by the Physics Department by July 1.

Do not use this form if you are applying for admission to the Physics Graduate
program; instead use the Application for Graduate Studies and Financial Aid form (see
above).
