The Department of Public Administration and Policy Analysis offers the Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree program. The MPA degree program is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA) and is one of the largest graduate degree programs at SIUE.
Over 110 MPA candidates are currently enrolled in the program and take classes from faculty actively engaged in a variety of academic and applied public administration areas. MPA candidates at SIUE include both mid-career professionals and pre-career students desiring to enter the public or nonprofit fields.
The department provides pre-career students with the opportunity to participate in a paid professional internship program. Interns are selected on a competitive basis and gain valuable career experience while earning the MPA degree. Recent interns have been placed in: municipal administration, policing, economic development, human resources, nonprofit administration, fundraising, information technology and community development. Intern placement opportunities exist in both Southwestern Illinois and the Greater St. Louis metropolitan region.
Mid-career students gain valuable skills that provide the opportunity for significant career development and advancement. The MPA Core program is designed to provide fundamental administrative training while the elective sequence allows students to construct an area of concentration specifically tailored to their career goals. |
