Inexpensive Kick Nets for Stream Monitoring

The Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission (ORSANCO) based in Cincinnati passes out the plans for an inexpensive kick net.  Here are their directions.

Materials needed are:

  •          Fine screening approximately 1 meter by 80 CM

  •          Two old mop or broom handles at least a meter long

  •          Duct tape

Directions for making the net are:

  •          Lay the screening on the floor with the longest side (1 m) as the width of the width.

  •          Place the mop handle on the edge of the screen and secure the screen with small pieces of duct tape.

  •          Hold the screen taught and roll around the handle for 1.5 turns

  •          Secure screening with a strip of duct tape the entire length of the tape.

  •          Repeat with the second mop handle
