Description:
The
biology unit is centered around biological assessment of river or
stream ecosystems.
Students learn to use biological diversity and water quality
indices to better understand the aquatic ecosystem.
Students also learn how to conduct habitat surveys and
environmental assessments to investigate stream quality and the
interactions between humans and rivers.
The students learn field and laboratory techniques while
working together to collect and interpret their data.
Field studies are designed to require a minimum of equipment
and the planning and methodology is systematically laid out for
teachers.
Rivers Biology also includes
journal sessions, games, experiments, and assessments to reinforce
the field and laboratory concepts.
