Stephen Brown received his B.A. in Fine Arts (art history) from Harvard in 1967, and his M. Music from SIUE in 1970. He has taught courses in the history of art, in the history of music, and in interdisciplinary subjects including "Song and Poetry," "The Arts and the French Revolution" and "The Art and Politics of Nineteenth-Century France." His book The Sense of Music, an introduction to music history and literature, was published by Harcourt Brace Jovanovich in 1988. He is active as a composer and performer. His musical comedy "Shirley Fairweather" received an Actors' Equity showcase production at Lincoln Center. A trio for violin, viola, and piano, called "In Dreams When We've Not Met," will appear on the new CD being put out by the Meridian Trio.
