Social Sciences - Days 7-8

Objectives:

Students will complete a career inventory to find fields of their liking.

Students will discover possible jobs of interest by using the Children’s Occupational Outlook Handbook 2nd Edition.

Materials:

Children’s Occupational Outlook Handbook 2nd Edition

Any career inventory. (For example, Choices Jr. Activities Checklist by Hunan Resources Development in Canada)

Worksheets- From Children’s Occupational Outlook Handbook 2nd Edition (CFKR Career Materials) Pay Day and Education and Training activities.

Procedures:

The lesson will begin with the teacher handing out and describing any career inventory. (For example, Choices Jr. Activities Checklist by Hunan Resources Development in Canada)

Following the teacher’s explanation, the students will complete and tally their individual checklist.

bullet

Next, the class will use the Children’s Occupational Outlook Handbook 2nd Edition to search for occupations which match their career fields. The research will be based on the career inventory. The student’s will be asked to identify five occupations that seem to interest them. The children will look into the job description, outlook, education needed, average earnings, working conditions, related jobs, subjects needed to study, and places to observe for each of the five.

While researching, the students will use the Pay Day and Education and Training activities.

Assessment:

Students will be assessed by using the Pay Day and Education and Training activities.

bullet

The two activities will assist the students in researching the pay and training needed for a variety of occupations.
