Introductory Activity
One of the biggest issues confronting adolescents is the development of their
own identity. During this period, it is also important that students become
aware of cultural diversity as well as more accepting of differences in their
peers. To achieve the goal of being a successful member of the community with a
realistic occupational choice, students must be aware of their own personal
interests and styles of learning.
As an introduction to a thematic unit on exploring identity, we will have the
students complete a survey which requires students to answer questions about
their preferred styles of learning in a variety of situations. This opportunity
to think about different types of intelligence will lead to discovering their
strengths and will enable students to feel more confident in becoming
independent members of society. This activity is also a precursor for the
culminating activity at the end of the unit. It is our hope that by learning
about their own identities, students will have positive interactions with their
diverse environments and future career endeavors.
