Students will get in groups and gather information about a certain event that led to the American Revolution (16.A.2b).

Procedures:

Anticipatory Set:

Tell the students that today we are going to talk about the American Revolution and what the causes were that led the colonists to decide to fight.

Tell them that they will listen carefully as you read exerts from a book and that they are going to do an activity in groups afterwards.

Development:

Introduce and the book, Liberty!  How the Revolutionary War Began.

bullet

Read pages 4-11 and pages 14-17

bullet

Be sure to show illustrations in the book to the students.

bullet

Discuss what you have just read from the book.

Sequence of events

Causes and Effects of each event

Break students into groups with a separate event to research

bullet

 Emphasize that dates need to be included

 Make sure causes and effects are stated

Have students assign different jobs to people in group.

Have each group present their picture and facts to the class.

Tell students the illustrations will be made into a game used later as review

Students will make a power point presentations displaying the information they gathering about the event.
