American Revolution

a thematic unit created by

Jenny, Mecheah, Heather, Rob, and Kevin

Our group chose the American Revolution as our unit topic for our final project.  We believe it is extremely important for students to learn about the history of our nation.  Many children are unaware of the struggles the colonists had to experience during the American Revolution.  Being informed of this will help the students to appreciate and respect our country.

There are also a wide variety of sub-topics included in the Revolutionary War.  This makes it easy to find several different activities and lessons covering all age levels.  For example, the primary levels could be taught a lesson on the daily life of the colonists and the students on the young adult level could be taught about the political and ideological reasons for the American Revolution.

Most importantly, the American Revolution is a very interesting topic.  To keep students engaged is one of the biggest problems teachers face.  When teaching students about the American Revolution, instructors do not have to spend a great deal of time coming up with lessons that will keep students interested.  If the students are interested in the subject, they are more motivated to learn.  The more motivated the students are, the better they will do in school as well as retain the information on a long term level.  The  learning experience will mean more to the students.
