Zip Cloze Procedures

Students use intrasentence and intersentence clues in text to construct meaning.
 

	Make an overhead transparency.
	Select words for deletion.
	Cut masking tape into short narrow strips peeling the edge back for ease in pulling off, cover the words.
	Teacher and class read the story in unison or echo.
	At the covered words the students predict what the word is using context clues. If correct the tape comes off continue through out the story.
	Focus discussion on how context was used to determine the appropriate words.
